You are aware what Man City and indeed football are nowadays? It isn't a sport anymore, it's a pursuit of money.

The top players get paid the most. Pretty much everyone in this country would move companies if someone offered them a 40% payrise. I have no idea why we hold footballers up to any higher standard than we do ourselves.

Do you do your job because you love it?

He hasn't been offered a pay rise, he's publicly disrespecting his employers in an attempt to put pressure on them for more money, days after they've just completed history and probably days after he's just picked up his latest £200,000.00 pay packet. Do not try and rationalise it.

Sorry, I must have missed the press conference where he came out and demanded more money and said he wanted a move. You made an irrelevant comment about footballers only playing for the money which is what everyone in this country does so I don't see the relevance.

In other news, apparently Kagawa has already met with ferguson about a possible transfer.

Don't be so naive, we all know how football works. His agent is looking for another £50k p/w and £5m signing on fee before Toure starts to decline due to age. It is not difficult.

Then he will decline and not pull in the top wages in Spain/England so will go to Russia. Toure has been at it his whole career.

So it turns out agents are not the most upstanding members of society. Words fail me. If a player got a payrise or a transfer every time their agent shot their mouth off there would be chaos. I'll reserve judgement until something actually happens as opposed to shady gossip.

Market rate? He's on about double the market rate already.

There's nothing wrong with getting paid more, making threats to leave City, after they've treated him so ridiculously well is what is wrong. He has no respect or appreciation for anything other than money. I don't know why people defend this behaviour, but I guess that's why they do it, they think they can get away with this reprehensible greed, as it's become common place and people accept it. I doubt I ever will.

Hasn't been posted in here but I'm sure you've all read it Kagawa's met with Fergie yesterday

Japan international Shinji Kagawa revealed Wednesday that he had met Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, as rumours swirl that the Borussia Dortmund star is eyeing a move to the Premier League.

The midfielder said the Scot, one of football's most successful managers, had "good words" to say about him during two hours of talks in Manchester this week.

Kagawa, who still has a year to run on his contract with the German champions and has stalled over signing an extension with the club, said he wanted to "think hard" before deciding where his future lay.

"It was good that I was able to meet him in person and talk," Kagawa told reporters on his return ahead of Japan's friendly against Azerbaijan.

Ferguson "had some good words," the player added when asked by journalists at Tokyo's Haneda Airport about the meeting, without disclosing what they discussed.

The 23-year-old scored 17 goals this season in all competitions to help Dortmund secure a second consecutive Bundesliga title and win the domestic double for the first time in their 103-year history.

He has made no secret of his desire to move to England with United tipped as front-runners to sign him.

Ferguson watched Kagawa score in Dortmund's 5-2 German Cup final win over Bayern Munich at Berlin's Olympic Stadium Saturday.

"I want to think hard before making my decision," Kagawa said, adding that several other Premier League clubs have also expressed interest in him.

"I want to choose a team where I can take on challenges," he added.

Dortmund are in a position to make a handsome profit by selling Kagawa, who cost the German club just 350,000 euros ($450,000) from Cerezo Osaka in 2010 but is now worth around 13 million euros.

Kagawa thanked Dortmund for allowing him to grow as a player, and said he will miss the thunderous roar of home fans and said coach Jurgen Klopp has told him he will always be welcome at the club.

Other big name clubs, including Chelsea, AC Milan and Arsenal have also been linked to Kagawa, media reports have said.

No one particularly agrees with it but we all understand that someone is worth whatever someone else will pay them. The way that football contracts work does mean that clubs are over a barrel somewhat but until that changes, we have to accept that players do have a lot of power and flexibility in their contracts.

He won't get more than he's on at City unless he gives up competitive football and moves to the middle east/Russia.

They're not stupid?

I'd like to go into their recent transfer policy to assure you that they're very stupid but I'm sure you already know the 15-20 players I'd mention.

Hate City? Where have you got that from? My comments haven't been against City, rather against Toure.

Indeed, that's good news!

More on Yaya Toure: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/7759664/Agent-Toure-open-to-offers

Everywhere is reporting it, so it's probably not entirely baseless.

Not sure why Barca would sell him, only to get him back two seasons later.

RM seem to have about 3 times as many CM's as anyone else (or thats how it seems) - so not sure there is much squad space there.

Chelsea is the "obvious" one, from a squad point of view - but whether he can get more money from them is another matter entirely (and surely money would be the only motivation for moviing there , unless he wants to live in London of course - but cant see many sporting reasons to go there from where he is.

Wouldnt be sorry to see him leave City - it IS a strange one though.

Just LOL.

How else could Citeh have gone from where they were, to where they are, in the same timeframe?

Its very hard to do it without having an intermediary stage with good but not world class players. City did it as quickly as they could but it still takes a couple of years.

To attract the best players in the world you need to:

Be a large club
Competing for domestic titles and european
Pay large wages
Have ambition

I think City have done all that over the last few years and the deadwood they will clear out over the summer will be those players who were the "first" lot that are not up to scratch any more.

You're right, without spending £20m on RSC and £25m on Adebayor, playing them about 20 times then paying them millions a year to sit at home, they'd be nowhere.

If you can't see that City made huge, huge, costly mistakes then you're simply wrong.

city have been able to.make expensive mistakes but get away with it due to spending power that allowed them to go out and replace no matter what.

when utd make an expensive mistake we can't instantly sell for a loss and just replace. i can't think of any times we've done that. if youlook at ming the merciless he stayed 2-3 seasons at united with 50+ appearances (in the league).

chelsea then spend 15 mill on him and only played him 7 times before moving him on for a big loss themselves lol.but they could afford to much better than utd could.
.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy might find it even more difficult to hang on to Modric than he did last summer but he will be encouraged by Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen’s wish to join Spurs.

The clubs are haggling over a fee — Ajax want £10m, with Spurs’ offer £2m less — but Vertonghen is keen to move to White Hart Lane even if Harry Redknapp’s side miss out on the Champions League. Chelsea will qualify at Spurs’ expense if they win the Final.

“I would like to play for Spurs, whether they are in the Champions League or not,” Vertonghen was quoted as saying in Holland.
