What on earth does everyone keep banging on about, this is a 5-3-2 with two wingbacks, not 3 cb's and 5 midfielders, its 3 cb's, 2 heavily defensive minded wingbacks, 3 central mids and 2 strikers. That is the formation, in that formation you have defensive wingbacks, you don't put two full on wingers there.
Milner/Koralov aren't even close to good enough, Clichy is, Richards could certainly do it as he's great bombing forwards. Nasri didn't play on the wing today and realistically silva/Nasri both drift in and play as withdrawn strikers who occasionally drift out wide, today Nasri played infront of Yaya and De Jong.
It was a pathetic formation and, Richards I think is injured, Clichy I wasn't aware he was, Lescott was on the bench and should have started. THe more I see that Silva, Lescott, Clichy didn't start and look at who did start it feels like a pathetic desparate attempt by Mancini to loosen the purse strings before the transfer window ends.
That formation simply won't work, the CB's aren't used to it and haven't played it significantly before, the central midfield trio didn't work in the slightest, wing backs and the defensive duties they have will hurt City badly because Silva and Nasri are ineffective on the wings and because you've switched a full on attacking position for a midfield/defensive position, you can't fit Silva/Nasri into the team. Personally I think both are too lightweight and too prone to going missing and Nasri especially doesn't provide enough guile to win games. Combination of Silva, Nasri and Yaya two passers and one very powerful runner gives them good overall strength moving forwards, just Nasri.... that was never in a million years going to work.
