This is why Utd fans turned on Berbatov....he was 30mil and despite never being a top goalscorer in England, people went 30mil + plays upfront, I'll only love him if he scores loads, and loads, and loads.
At Spurs he was effectively a withdrawn striker, used to link the midfield and upfront, hold up the ball, release players in behind. He's a playmaker, not a goal scorer. He was ALWAYS brilliant at this at Spurs and he was always brilliant at it at Utd.
What certain fans seem to forget by poking at his goal scoring stat as a reason he wasn't good is, that was a BONUS part of his game. YOu bought a guy who scored 10 goals a year, but his work in the attacking half of the pitch relieved pressure in tough games, he could pick up anything thrown anywhere near him, he can hold on to the ball almost indefinitely until he gets support and he'll choose the right pass to make an attack turn into a goal scoring chance. When he scored 20, it doesn't matter in what games, those were bonus to his central role at the club.
It's funny, watching Utd I saw Rooney have far more frequent poor games than Berbatov, but he'd pick up a couple of tap ins on the basis of players like Berbatov's creative work and Rooney's ineptitude in one game would be forgiven every time.
He'll be a great signing for Fulham, though only time will really tell how they'll do losing so many influencial playmakers this season, Murphy, Dempsey and now Dembele.

He didn't gel with the club and it didn't work out, quite simple.

Laughable he ever went to West Ham in the first place. Everyone could see he is not the best to receive HOOF and it was no surprise he scored twice in his 12 appearances for the club...
Cardiff look very tidy though!

Any CB will pretty much become first choice given Hooiveld being our only decent CB (even if he's a bit slow)
Seaborne I wouldn't wish on any team and Fonte isn't long term premier league standard... (just excited CB's are turning up and hopefully pushing the pecking order about)

Wages, you keep forgetting about wages. De Jong will be on a big wage, and few clubs in Europe will be willing to match it, and considering Mancini barely uses him any more. Not well used, massive wage, almost no other club would match it = cheap transfer. However, the lack of a bidding war for the player is again about the wages. Arsenal could afford 3.5mil, or to beat that and give them 10mil for him, but they can't afford to match his wages. Likewise City are probably unwilling to sell to Chelsea/Utd, which leaves which clubs available that can match his wages? Barca has around 45mil's worth of DM's who sit behind Busquets in the pecking order, Real have Diarra, Khedira and Alonso.
That leaves effectively 1-2 other clubs who will match his wages and City desparate to offload him, 3.5mil is the best you could hope for.

how much did you pay? £3.5m, was there any point in selling him? surely he's a valuable squad player and i doubt he was a high earner.
He didn't really work with any of our other forwards, at any time, and only worked briefly upfront on his own, so Ferguson rightly decided the odd one out (as they all seemed perfectly capable of playing in any combination apart from him) should be dropped and moved on.
I said it when the nonsense about his transfer started that he wasn't what united needed, that he wouldn't fit in and that we already had a better deep lying forward already at the club who not only creates, but has a one in 2 strike rate as well.
I think he wants 100k a week and City won't give him it

you have seen him play?!?! I'v only seen a few shoddy youtube videos and am not getting too excited until I have seen some proper football from him (after De Ridder being a massive let down I'm trying to be more sensible).A LB is the next priority as Shaw was useless defending on Tuesday, good going forward just not an amazing defender...
