I don't hate Tottenham - I just think the blinkered view of Tottenham fans is hilarious.

You don't have to, in any given moment... but you will sell Modric, and probably will sell Bale. You best players leave, it's just what happens.

A tight ship, that's leaking :o. So you want to mimic Arsenal, and what they did with the Emirates? Doesn't that rely on you qualifying for the Champions League, every year? Not going to happen :o.

Champions league has nothing to do with the Emirates?

We take 50mil more in gate reciepts than we used to, that is the ONLY reason we got the new stadium and its the ONLY thing paying for the new stadium.

For ANY club, a new stadium makes sense if increase capacity + gate receipts will pay off the stadium easily and have long term increased income. This is the case with or without the champs league, which is only what 4 home games for Arsenal most seasons vs the other 19 league game, normally 5-6 cup games, preseason, internationals. It's not like champs league ticket receipts alone are paying for the stadium, welcome, sure, but we'd get similar ticket income from Europa league also.

Spurs, Fulham, Everton, Liverpool, Chelsea(massively so), City, Utd, Arsenal could all make more money with increased capacity(and most of the other teams as well, except Wigan :p ).

AS for selling their best players, Cesc, Vieira, Henry, Overmars, Petit, Ronaldo(fat and thin), Figo, Zidane, Eto'o, Zlatan.

All clubs, excluding NONE, sell their best players, because players move on, for money, location, cups, scandals, stupidity, whatever. Spurs WILL sell their best players, as will every club in every league in every continent, that is how football works.

Clubs that sell their most over valued assets, and buy undervalued ones, do better than clubs that do the opposite, both financially and usually on the pitch..... cough, Newcastle. If they got anything over 30mil for Bale, they'd be getting 15mil more than he's worth, same goes for Modric. Laughing at Spurs for making good business decisions is.... odd. Selling Henry for 15, when we had 30mil offers the year before, not so good, selling Nasri for 25mil when he's worth 10mil at best, great, selling Clichy for 7mil, poor, paying Diaby anything over 3pence a season.... horrifically stupid.

Err... exactly. I was saying that Tottenham need Champions League football, every year, to copy Arsenal's way of building the Emirates (which they were able to do through astute player trading and consistent Champions League revenues).

I said,

Copying Arsenal's way relies on being in the Champions League every year... which isn't going to happen.

you're confusing yourself now

btw, who got more revenue from tv last year, spurs or arsenal?

cm I think you've confused yourself here

You definitely need the £30m~ per year that the CL gives you if you want to build a new stadium, or you could get your billionaire owner to chip in I guess, it is all the rage at the moment, and lets be honest, the prospect of Spurs getting CL football every year for the next 15 years is just laughable.

season just gone, £57m. only behind city and united. are you actually an arsenal fan, moses?

anyway.

Tottenham transfer target Jan Vertonghen has cast doubt over his potential summer switch to Spurs by revealing that he would be open to a move elsewhere.

Spurs have been courting Vertonghen for some time and were believed to be on the cusp of sealing a deal after club chairman Daniel Levy was spotted in Amsterdam alongside the Belgian International’s agent earlier this week.

The Ajax centre-back previously stated his desire to secure a switch to White Hart Lane, but now says that Tottenham were never his ‘only’ option away from the Eredivisie – although he is still open to a move there

“I never said that I will only leave Ajax for Tottenham. I only said that they are my preferred option,” he told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwesblad.

"I have a good feeling with the club and that matters to me. They have already invited me and want to wrap this up shortly.

“Tottenham missing out on the Champions League doesn’t play a role in my decision, but it could have consequences for their transfer budget.

"They’ve told me that I’m their only option and that’s a big compliment."

Despite the fact Vertonghen has a year remaining on his current deal, Ajax are said to be holding firm in their valuation of the defender which is believed to be around £12 million, while Spurs are unwilling to offer any more than £10 million.

The highly-rated 25-year-old has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal and Newcastle, while he admitted last week that he would find it difficult to turn down a move to AC Milan should the Italian giants come calling.

i haven't confused myself at all and you've answered what would happen with the owner chipping in. need to increase revenue through gate receipts, this is clearly holding us back and has been for a long time.

secure stadium naming rights, secure investment/backing from owner, investors and local council and develop area. build stadium as part of long term business plan and under a sustainable repayment programme.

increase revenue, buy better players, have more gate receipts and competition money. it doesn't have a great deal to do with the champions league though it obviously helps.

this is football, anyone who thinks someone buys a football club to actually make money year on year is looking at it wrongly this doesn't mean the club can't be classed as solvent.

I love how when there are more than two off topic Utd posts in a row Andy leaps down our throat and threatens to close the thread but this off topic Spurs finance **** has been going on for pages :p

I was just thinking this Shami.

Martinez set for talks with Liverpool in the next day or two. It would be interesting to see what Martinez could do with a bigger club and higher expectations.

wigan set to give liverpool a put up or shut up ultimatum, which is fair enough they don't need it dragging on,they need to know if they have to get a new manager so they can prepare for next season.

I thought that it was more on Martinez at this point still. The article I read said that Martinez was given 7 days to decide where he wants to be next year.

So...now that drama is over lets get back to everyones favourite topic... Eden Hazard!

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11813/7776241/Hazard-reveals-final-three

"I do not know when a decision will be made about my future club," he told the Belgian media after training with the national side.

"It will be between Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

"The final choice also depends on how much play that I would get and the position where I play.

"Not everyone can say that he can choose from these three clubs."

Apparently he wants to play the number 10 role behind a striker, rather than an a winger.

Guess if united get him and Kagawa we could give the 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 formation a go. Hard to say which club that info favours really. From twitter, most of the rumours that come out are saying that he will sign for united but if they were true I think we would have got him a week or more ago.

4-3-2-1? Where would Nani, Valencia and Young fit into that? Nani and Young could probably play in the two but I don't think that formation would suit Valencia at all.

Probably more of a 4-4-1-1 with Hazard just off of Rooney/Striker. My fear would be that Rooney would still drop too deep which would be a pain.

I think it's difficult for Chelsea to say 'Ok, we will play you loads and where you want' when they aren't the most stable of clubs for managers.

Also, I don't think Kagawa AND Hazard would be signed.

Haha, yeah. That was just trying to shoehorn both of them into the side but as you say, we probably wouldn't get both of them.

Hazard to United makes the most sense to me but I may be a mite biased.

At Chelsea they have no idea who is going to be manager next year, there is talk that whoever does take over will be there for only a year as well. They are clearing out a large part of their squad so who knows what they will have come the start of the season. They might not be in the champions league after next year. Lets be honest, Chelseas CL win won't make an iota of difference to them beyond the fact that they are in it again this year. Anyone who watched their progress would say that they were un-necessarily lucky on the way to the win and played cruddy football to do it.

City have got a large number of talented players in all the positions that he would like to play in and it doesn't sound like they are offloading many of their first team so he would be a bit part player. He might get a fair bit of game time but I get the impression he wants to be a rooney in whichever team he joins (i.e. first on the teamsheet if fit).
