Am I getting too old for PC gaming?

I'm 38 and have to admit stand alone games bore me, I much prefer social interaction and MMO's. Besides which online competition against other humans is far better than computer AI and more satisfying wne you beat them!

As for the reaction thing it is over exaggerated, regular practice is far more important. Kids usually have a lot more time to play than adults ;)

Come to think of it in years to come the kids are going to be massively out numbered by us "oldies" as every 10yrs or so we get a new batch of recruits! Besides which the way the economy is going the kids will have umpteen qualifications, big debts and no jobs. Who's going to afford the new hardware and games then?! ;)

reactions are the same as skillz...use them or lose them.

i am sort of in the same boat as you though. dont really enjoy games anymore.

not played CSS since they 'updated' it and i had been playing since the cs beta 7.1

i tend to stick to my sim racing now.

play a bit of BC2 now and again.

im 24

@ old man

my grandad plays games and uses these forums normally giving out hardware advice!

'old5od' or 'alan8or' is his user name aged 60 something

I'm only 33 (feel like quite a young gamer in this thread) and I keep finding games getting better and better. It's true that COD and most other online games start to feel samey after a while - run shoot die [ACHIEVEMENT!]- run shoot die [ACHIEVEMENT!] - ad infinitum. But I find the Single Player worlds of games like Bioshock, half-life, Stalker, Crysis, Just Cause 2 even Modern Warfare - absolutely amazing. Love them and will definitely replay most of them again. And again.

And it's not just the graphics (although they do look wonderful compared to Digger, twenty five years ago) it's the FUN. I got Plants v Zombies cheap on Steam recently. Absolutely absorbed in it for the last two weeks or so, haven't even played TF2 in that time. Brilliant, and so simple. Sure Alien Swarm is fun and it's free! I know we need the critics to push the industry on but I'm so glad I'm not one of them so I can actually enjoy the stuff. Long live gaming.

I'll probably play games 'til the day I die. There'll be lots of people then telling me how awful The Best Game Ever is and how ugly Crysis 17 is and how half-life 9 is boring and COD Modern Warfare Delta Widowmakers Episode 63 is hackneyed and derivative but I will still be enjoying the good parts of them all. Game on!

Fast approaching 50 but still playing, well like many others finding games a bit dull these days. I don't think it's because I'm too old it's just as I've seen it all before and the only thing that changes is the hardware requirements and graphics, AI still lags behind badly in most games and ruins the experience. I've done online gaming which is fine for racing sims but in shooters it's still an arcade experience.

i actually only got into online gaming when i got bc2.till then i downloaded all my games so couldnt go online.i love the thought of playing against ppl all over the world

I felt like I was getting too old about a year ago. I find that whilst this is generally true, some games are still a great deal of fun for me. I especially enjoy multiplayer strategy titles. Perhaps try to play as many different genres of games (top titles) as you can to find which ones suit you best now you are older. ;)

Erm... I'm sorry but if I'm unable to play games at 38 because of "my reactions". I will kill myself.

I played a lot of FPS (UT '99 / Q3) when i was in my early 20's. I'm now 30 and after 6 years of WoW and just flash games i found getting back into FPS (BF:BC2) *very* hard, took me a good 3-4 months to get my reactions back. I'm still nowhere near as quick or co-ordinated as i used to be! :(

Ah well, I've decided to sell up after all. My 460 was an impulse buy really. I only meant to get a 5770 initially. :o

I'll be looking at a downgrade to something that'll be fine with FM2011 when it comes out. Nothing more needed really.

I play games because its a better form of entertainment than TV, I watch TV but I cant stand the stuff they force feed you so I only select things

I'm 29 and really cant see this changing any time soon and it probably wont ever change

Im 38 and just dont play the same as I used to, i play in little chunks though, at the moment, ive been playing a lot of Dirt 2, short bursts of maybe 10-30 mins at a time. Ive got over 100 games on steam, but rarely play any of em!

To be honest, I'm happy with an addictive game like Bejewelled or I might even give Micro Machines a go. Fancy graphics don't do it for me anymore. Gameplay rules!

This is how it used to be. Graphics over gameplay was frowned upon and severely hurt review scores. These days it seems to have been turned on its head. Just look at Crysis.

Crysis is an amazing game, I dont get how people complain about it! It had the best physics and open style gameplay of its time and arguably still does. You can address any situation in any way you want in as much time as you want. Never before did an FPS give you this kind of freedom with such an open world to do it in with such amazing graphics

I think the problem with Crysis is people tried to play it too high a setting ruining the fluid gameplay

It is OK, until you get onto the alien ship. Then it seriously looses its way. Of course all the reviewers were too dazzled by the graphics to notice.
