Amazon Fire TV

Excellent :)

Did you set-up Kodi with it already and did it go ok...?

When yours arrived did it have a later firmware which prevents rooting...?

To be honest I didn't check to see if it could be rooted as you don't need it for kodi I just went ahead and sideloaded it. Yes kodi set up went fine sideloading with adbfire is a doddle.

got one a couple of days ago and replaced my htpc which was just being wasted as i only used plex. The fire tv is amazing its quick and so simple even my wife can use it

Mine is due for delivery on Monday. Looks like the 59p cost of buying Plex when it was on an Amazon sale might be used.!

I'll probably agree with you as I fully intend to use the latest Kodi build, probably the 14.1 beta release. I have never had the desire to install Plex, and even the 59p cost of it hasn't enticed me enough to bother.

BTW what are you using now that you sold your FTV..?

I have my NAS setup for dlna and use my Samsung smart TV to access my NAS :) works really quick and easy, it adds a Synology disk station symbol to your sources at the top for quick access, it's brilliant. :)

i find plex to be a much better experience then xbmc. I used to use xbmc and thought it was just a pain to use. I was os glad to find plex the server is brilliant and the versatility is excellent

Mine has arrived from Amazon, only ordered yesterday.!

Just had a small play with it and installed Kodi 14.1 and a new launcher, giving Kodi an icon on the Home Screen. Optical out carrying DD and DTS so it gives the impression that all is good.
Remote seems a little limited, after being used to a mapped MCE type, but we shall see.

Worth the cost.

Will plex always transcode on internal network? So server needs a decent ish cpu?

I like both. Xmbc bit more though

Yeah! Mine was being funny this afternoon. YouTube app kept saying it needed to be reinstalled.

Just rebooted it by holding middle button and pause/play and it's all good again.

Taken the plunge with this to use mainly as a kodi box instead of wheeling out the old laptop. Reading around there seem to be some alternative kodi settings to try out to fix occasional stutter on 1080p playback. Have people here had to do this? It seemed all a bit random whether you needed to and which one works best.

Media is all on a HP n54l using openmediavault as a NAS and I will be using wired connection. My rips are all straight off via makemkv and not been using hand brake for re-encoding as I don't see the point in reducing playback quality when disc space is so cheap.

EDIT No faffing required. Colour me impressed. Blue ray rips are fine even wireless. I can see me buying a second for upstairs.

Can anyone recommend a good USB IR receiver that works with the Fire TV and can be controlled with a Harmony? My CEC has randomly stopped working and I can't get it back.
