Amazon Fire TV

Back to £64 so I think I'll get one for the living room - seriously impressed.
This morning I was screen mirroring my Note 3 so I could read my emails on the TV.

If I do buy another AFT and sign in with my Amazon account will all the APPs I 'bought' download to the new one?

Yes. Under settings -> my account there's an option to restore purchases. On all five of mine all the apps work having only bought them once.

Update email today:

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the FireTV compared to the Roku3, Raspberry Pi2, Nexus Player etc?

I currently use my Xbox One for Netflix, Amazon prime, plex, etc in the living room, but would like the same kind of access to the services in another room.

Although mine is still down as a 'Pre-Order' the Delivery Estimate is showing tomorrow (Wednesday) so I will be keeping my fingers crossed.

Edit: Just received an email to say that it has now been despatched by Royal Mail.

Looks like it is untracked though, so it may not be delivered tomorrow after all... we shall see! :)

Received my Fire Stick early this morning, all set up with Kodi and works perfect. The remote is alright but just using the official app at the moment which is surprisingly pretty good.

I received mine today also, and am considering deploying it as a replacement for my basic Now TV box, on which I don't have any additional subscriptions anyway.

Bearing in mind that although not interested in paying to watch any movies, I am obviously not averse to any 'free' ones, or to any which are automatically included in my Amazon Prime subscription.

As I am not a great sports fan either I would like to know if there is any downside... or even possibly some advantages, in making this 'swap'?

I do appreciate that the Now box does have a 'hard wired' internet connection, and the FireTV Stick is WiFi only, but hopefully that won't be a problem.

Thanks! :)

Got my Fire Stick today as well, works a treat, Mrs has a Kindle Fire HDX and it all just works seamlessly together (as you'd expect!). Great bit of kit for the money.

So in terms of Plex, Kodi and Netflix, what is the difference between a Fire TV and a Stick, other than no Ethernet, USB or Optical Out?

The specs of the Fire TV are better so you could argue that software will run smoother etc but I have been playing 1080p content today on my fire stick and its been perfect.

This has replaced my Raspberry Pi 2 as my "HTPC" as it is just a plug and play job. I like how its just one MICRO usb in the side and away it goes.

I have a Fire TV downstairs, but I'm tempted by a Stick for the bedroom. I will prob nab one the next time they are on offer.

mines down for delivery today. haven't seen it though. sigh.

Hopefully it will be delivered today.

It looks as if they are using a Royal Mail 24 hour untracked service, so although items should arrive the day after sending, unfortunately this is not always the case.

In a case like this you would have thought they would a least have used a tracked service, which I have found to be a bit more reliable.... still every penny counts I suppose!
