Amazon Fire TV

Not sure if this will help but if you click on maintainance it brings up a system settings menu

I've been all over it 10x.
Seems daft that BlackBox have completely taken over my Kodi so I can't do anything else with it.
Luckily I installed it on top of TVMC so I still have Kodi.

Sorry I thought the earlier reply regarding maintenance/settings had solved it. I'll have a look tonight.

Has anyone had both the stick and the box? Finding the stick a bit slow/laggy and heard the box was supposed to be better

I've got both. The Stick has considerably less resources than the Box so it is a bit less smooth in its navigation of menus and apps.

I've seen no issues at all when its actually playing media though, in that respect they are perfectly comparable.

same, the stick is just a little slower loading the options etc but once streaming no noticeable difference.

Does anyone else find trying to stream through the Vimeo app absolutely useless? I have no problems streaming through any other app but it's just constant stuttering in Vimeo.

Still been having a problems with Kodi if anyone can help (the Kodi thread seems pretty dead).

I realize performance issues with Android devices is quite a common problem/thread and i've done about as much as I can to try and troubleshoot the problem myself. Basically, I get these very strange "slowdowns" that are akin to FPS drops, if you play a lot of PC games you'll get the idea. It's not stuttering as such (it's not buffering or anything like that) and I dont know for a fact that it is actually FPS drop (I dont know how to find out) and i've tried three or four different advancedsettings.xml files to no avail. I'd really like to try and get this sorted because in general I much prefer the Kodi UI to Plex. FWIW it's the 1st gen FireTV (not stick) that i'm using on a new Samsung 40" TV with everything streaming from my NAS via ethernet.

Thanks

If you have a keyboard attached press o this will bring up the screen overlay with details of the file being played, dropped frames and cpu usage. I used to have an issue with cpu usage on the fire tv if it and Kodi had been on for a few days. If you don't have a keyboard install yatse on your phone, the context menu button opens the overlay.

Are you using NFS in Kodi to stream from the NAS? Also, check the application size in the Fire TV settings for Kodi. Mine had similar issues and it was because the HDD was all but used up. I now save all graphics to the NAS instead of the Fire TV which has made a huge difference in the performance.

Yeah it's NFS, storage shouldn't be problem as i've got a few apps installed and its a fresh install of Kodi. Out of interest, how do make Kodi save all the graphics and such on my NAS?

Thanks

I think I used this link: Save graphics to NAS

I would advise starting Kodi from scratch if you're going to do this by clearing data and cache in the Kodi app settings. Create the advanced settings file and apply it immediately after starting Kodi for the first time. Otherwise your graphics will not appear (leaving a lot of blank image holders) and only new graphics saved to the NAS will.

If you have a large music library it fills the Fire TV very quickly. I think I had 100MB free before I performed this update which in turn caused buffering every now and again.

here is a copy of my Advanced settings file:

Code:
<advancedsettings>
  <pathsubstitution>
    <substitute>
      <from>special://masterprofile/Thumbnails/</from>
      <to>nfs://192.168.1.30/volume1/NAS/Kodi/Fanart/External Cache</to>
    </substitute>
  </pathsubstitution>
</advancedsettings>
