Amazon Fire TV

I know it's not what you want to hear, but these sort of devices (especially routers) are designed to be left on 24/7. Somebody once told me that the act of turning computers, routers etc on is the most stressful on the components. So she's shortening the lifespan. Maybe that's a good enough argument for her? Not to mention how do you record with the PVR if it's off? :p

true , thermal cycling of the components usually ends in premature death of equipment and more likely to INCREASE RISK of fire due to failure

Need help guys.
Staying in a hotel, brought Amazon firebox however forgot remote :/ it's set up for lan back home. I have the remote app on my phone (iPhone) but don't know the password for the wifi direct! Any ideas?

No wifi (police HQ) I was going to use my phone if that is possible via direct wifi but don't know what the default password is. Looks like I'm screwed :( can't find an app other than the official one.

Use wifi hotspot on the phone.

Actually that wont work either it would need to work over bluetooth to connect first to even get the remote app to work.
Is it the 4K fire tv as thats wifi i think ?
The original fire tv is bluetooth.

I agree, but this is woman's logic I'm fighting against. The risk of fire while we're out, and the cost savings by not wasting electricity are so significant that it's not work arguing about (again).

It doesn't stop the AFTV from being stupid for not having the option of searching again following a failed connection attempt.

Perhaps you should mention to her you had a phone call from your internet provider asking you if you had a problem with the router as it kept switching itself off and on. Angle it so that it sounds like the company are complaining about it...Perhaps something like a replacement router if it is problematic as it is causing problems their end... :p

Should have put your foot down early on in the relationship :p ;)

So looking at a Kodi setup, is there any reason to go for the 4k player over the Fire TV stick? Other than 4k obviously which I don't currently have the TV for.

Better specs, ethernet capabilities rather than just wifi, micro sd slot for expendable storage among others.

Within the last couple of weeks Firestarter seems to have stopped working on my Fire TV stick and Kodi has also appeared in the "recent apps" section on the main screen.

Has some kind of update been applied to force this? Or should I be checking and perhaps re-installing Firestarter?

The recent update broke it ,there is a new app called firestopper but another update could break this too.As Kodi appears in the main menu now i would just launch it from there now.

Got my Firestick a couple of months ago, however just got around to installing Kodi on it.

Question, when Streaming @ Medium all is fine try a High quality option and it buffers every 5 - 6 min. Firestick is right next to router so is it just lack of memory not allowing it buffer too far ahead? Is a fire TV going to be better or a mini media pc with much bigger storage?

Thanks
