Amazon making some items prime only purchases

The other way to look at this, most people using Amazon are Prime members, since people that doesn't fall for the subscription service usually source bargain elsewhere anyway.

So in a way, locking up contents will only lure people in joining prime, and turn away people that aren't their target customers anyway.

Seriously though, I'm interested in knowing what is it that Amazon Prime offer apart from Video/audio content? (I personally don't use those when I have prime)

A lot of thing, when I do NEED things the next day, they're small things like screws and stuff, but then I need to make a purchase of £20 to even make the order, to me that's a gigantic joke. The stuff that they sell aren't guaranteed to be quality anyway, I can source from the bay with much better price and quality.

Just my two cents :) I'm actually saving money after giving up buying from Amazon and buying a lot less garbage that end up going to the bin lol

Prime is amazing, get credit most of the time... When things don't arrive on time I complain and get a free month, if something is not as expected, I complain and get a free month. Normally get about 6 months free a year.

I bought a prime membership. purely because i order 20-40 items per month from them, Next day delivery is ace, along with the amazing return policy.
I return around 15% of the stuff i buy, and NEVER had an issue, instant refund or amazon voucher as soon as the item is scanned at the post office.

I can offer customers a 24 hour turn around on things due to prime...

There is no minimum spend for prime free next day. I'm often getting £7 cd's delivered sometimes on a Sunday too.

Some interesting points of view - Im not particularly put out by the change but Im not particularly impressed by it so much so that I wont be getting the Student Prime I was considering (while I use Amazon as my go to online store I dont particular use it enough to really make the benefits of Prime essential).

I view this like as if my local regular supermarket prevented me from buying a particular item unless I paid for a loyalty card or something - just doesnt sit right with me and Id expect Amazon to not go down the route of improving the attractiveness of Prime by removing service from non-Prime customers but instead making Prime itself better.

I look at how Amazon US gives you 20% off game preorders or how in Amazon Italy Prime is something like half the price as ours (in Japan its like £25!) for the same set of services (dont think it has Now though) - those are things that make Prime better, stopping non-Prime customers buying a small selection of products doesnt IMO.

The stick just doesnt work for me, its not hard to find a place that doesnt need a stick to provide the same product. Really though I doubt it will make any difference to how I use Amazon in the future...

ps3ud0

Yeah... Free £39 by talking to a robot for at least 6 times per year...

They offer

1 - Next Day deliver
2 - 2 hour delivery window (location dependent)
3 - Video streaming
4 - Music Streaming
5 - Unlimited Photo storage.
6 - Cloud storage
7 - Discounts on baby goods
8 - Prime Day sale, it's basically like Black Friday
9 - Credit back if you don't need items the next day so you get a return on your £80
10 - Kindle Library

I am sure I've miss other things.

As for items not being quality, not sure what you mean. Like I want a PS4, I find it on Amazon, it is guarantee not to be ripped off, it is guaranteed to be real and made by Sony. The eBay one isn’t better quality is it and slight chance of getting nothing but a box? Plus that's what the user reviews are for so you get a good idea.

As for buying a lot of garbage, don’t blame Amazon, blame yourself for buying garbage. It's because it is there, doesn't mean you have to buy it all. Really do not understand that. I buy things that I need, things that I want. I've bought my DSLR on there, that's not garbage, I don't buy plastic fake diamonds, perhaps you do and may be its time to apply some self-control?

Now that is a totally different issue, Prime membership for a business is really cost efficient.

But for a normal family, when would you really need to make 40 urgent purchases that needs to arrive next day?

If you don't then don't subscribe?

What is the problem here?

LOL,Amazon basically shooting themselves in the foot then,People will just go elsewhere.

Not everyone buys stuff all the time that makes prime worth having,Silly move on them imo.

If you think about it it's quite clever - people will impulse buy because they have free next day delivery. They are sort of committed to buy from Amazon because of the subscription charge.

Some will, some people will buy Prime. I doubt their margins are high on Blu-rays anyway, I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing financially.

Been with Amazon prime almost two years, i'll always check elsewhere on prices and factor in cashback I can get from other retailers as well.

However, i'll give amazon prime about a 5% tolerance on price as they deliver next day without fail...sundays as well. That's on 100+ orders in 2 years. Also any problems such as the item not being satisfactory, they'll either refund or send a replacement immediately and a lot of time allow you to keep the item you weren't happy with if it was less than £20.

Most things with Amazon are free next day delivery with prime.

There are some items that need to be in an order with a value of £20, but they tend to be bulky/heavy yet cheap.

For example I can order a £2 DVD or BD and get it next day with prime, same with books, but some other items at £2 need to be in a £20 order.

Personally prime pays for itself just from letting me get stuff next day that I would otherwise have to spend a fiver and a couple of hours to get for use the next day (and if I'm not in a hurry I get a pound or more back per order for use on ebooks etc, which means I'm getting about £50 or more of books a year free).

You have discipline sir!

However, many....do not.

Me and my parents both used to have prime, then i realised it was daft since i only used it for the fast deliveries so i just use their account now, saves me a few quid :)
