Amazon Prime !!!!

I'm really seeing the benefit of Prime during lockdown and I'm actually surprised it hasn't increased in price via the supply/demand logic that is affecting electronics prices, dogs etc..

Having said that, the OP is right that the marketing of Prime to those who don't have it is far too aggressive and misleading. It's the darker side of Amazon business practices and you'll also see it if you buy one of their tablets and try to use their app store. Audible cancellation is also a cumbersome, confusing process.

Most that use this forum are relatively tech savvy, but bear in mind there are more and more people using Amazon now that never did before and they probably find they've signed up to a product they don't want and then trying to navigate a cancellation process that is not clear in the slightest.

The OP isn't about whether Prime is value for money, it's about Amazon's aggressive marketing techniques that are arguably unlawful.

If you are buying loads of stuff from Amazon then Prime is right for you.
As I said in my OP I have only used Amazon about 3 times in 10 years - there for I do not need PRIME.
If you want PRIME then by all means sign up - I do not want PRIME there for I should be able to quite easily buy what I want and pay postage and not have to FAF about trying to avoid signing up

My post isn't about how quick Amazon is to deliver (I know that with my last order months ago) it about trying to avoid compulsary sign up by stealth - I am willing to pay Amazon prices and DELIVERY - I don't want PRIME.

Thanks Dirk you pipped me to the post :)

I do find Amazon more and more frustrating as they try to push all of the cheap chinese brands at you. It's becoming more and more difficult to find options of more quality brands without jumping through hoops in the search filters.

Now that you have it, watch The Expanse. And Jack Ryan. And Man in the high Castle (definite really slow burn on this one) and Bosch. All worth watching, Bosch and The Expanse particularly.

I always thought I couldn't live without Amazon, but after my student membership finally running out (boo!), I decided to cancel.

I saved so much money! I would always impulsively order things just because I knew I could get them the next day/same day.

When ordering something under 20 pounds, it made me think whether I actually needed it, and then for stuff over 20, I just knew it would get here when it gets here.

Edit: the other thing with Amazon now is that there's so much Chinese crap on there... Jesus! All these companies trying to make the same version of something.

What did it for me recently was finding a desk lamp :p In the end I gave up

No swear words can describe how much I hate -loath and Detest Amazon.

I have just made my third purchase from Amazon in the last 10 years and did my utmost to avoid signing up for Prime - Although it said free postage I knew that involved signing up so I read every page but it seems I missed it. I knew when I saw it was free postage on pay now where I expected to see about £4.
I clicked back back back a few times and started again but it still got me
I have the confirmation email which I clicked but not clicked any links yet.
This is by the way a 30 day trail so I have no intension of buying anything in next 30 days so what do I do then to make sure I cancel it or not actvate it.
I find it really annoying that everything you do on Amazon you need a lawyer sitting with you so you don't sign up for the cunningly worded stuff they are trying to and do land you with.

I got caught by prime's underhand sign up a while ago. Just cancel it within the 30 days- though that is confusing and difficult: "are you sure you don't not want not to resile? Click the tiny invisible button, if you don't disagree."

I have missed the 30 day free window a few times and been charged. Then when i canceled it they refunded the month as I hadnt used any part of it. Can't fault that really

Trying to cancel it is a bit of an ordeal in itself - Asks you whether you’re sure about 10 times before reluctantly cancelling :p

The trial is good though - Use it for free, fast postage, then cancel and you still have 30 days of prime to enjoy!

I accidentally let a trial run out and was charged a years subscription - Quick email and they cancelled and refunded it! Good times

This thread clearly shows why in future the UK is going to be rebranded Amazon Territory West Europe #5.

People actually love to see Amazon taking over everything and would not bat an eyelid no matter how much of a monopoly it became.

Fairly sure they'd elect Bezos as Planetary Supreme Leader if they could :p

I wouldn’t be surprised if in 10-20 years or so, Amazon was a major supermarket brand in the uk, or at least a local convenience store like Tesco Express or the Co-op.

They've already bought whole foods, rumours they were close to buying Morrissons.

It's inevitable on some level.

That said for all the hand wringing, monopolies come and go..

Well worth the money in my opinion. Is Amazon no longer an OcUK competitor and/or can we talk about Amazon now without a hasty account suspension?

OP: I barely use Amazon so not worth using Prime but It’s hard to opt out.

GD: PrImE Is GrEaT FoR mE!

GD at it's finest; completely ignore the OP and just circle-jerk the topic :D

@DXP55 - I can see why they do it but you're right, cancelling is a chore with the "are you sure?" nag screens. Also a PITA when you forget to cancel within the 30 days but at least Amazon will refund.

Don't really like what Amazon represents but I can't deny it's been hugely useful, especially lately.
Bezos can have that £8/m from me, it's worth it.

Yesterday I ordered a toilet seat. It's on my downstairs toilet now.

You’ve always been allowed to talk about Amazon as long as you’re not discussing products that OcUK sell.
