amd 12.6 Beta CAP1 & AMD Catalyst 12.6 Beta Driver

I've been having issues with these too, on a 7850. Had a driver crash in firefox and it's screwed up the video decoding in vlc making anything that isn't an MKV unwatchable.

And for some reason it randomly bumps my fan speed up to 50% for a few seconds.

Working well for my 7970 on BF3. Hasn't improved Diablo 3 much though as still get a massive hit with shadows set to high.....

these driver are **** for cf/trifire. i know these are beta but nearly all the previous beta have been much better...

it seem like amd moving away from monthly drivers are making the drivers worse ,lol

There arent any.

Its either 12.4 WHQL or these.

---

Was reading about it, and supposedly the nameing convention is going to stay the same, well if that is rthe case why do we have the 12.6's already?

Surely these are the 12.5 betas?
no,.

they've just skiped a month .. because maybe 12.5 driver didn't add much or fix much.

why is it hard to understand.... 12.6 driverrs are a preview/beta, just like windows 8 is a preview... amd as said they won't release WHQL drivers every month. but they'll be releasing more preview/beta and hotfix drivers

so for example amd may release WHQL 12.6 then 12.8 then 12.11 then 12.12, and have preview/beta and hotfix drivers in between.

Have u tested xfire on 1080p? These are beta drivers, so surely issues should be reported to AMD by its testers for fix / investigation? Hope u all who participate in beta testing do so too.

Things will be better, may take a month or two before we see all the benefits. But, not having to rush out a new driver every month will give them more time to fix issues.
And dropping support for the older cards is long overdue, I'm not saying these should be forgotten all together, but they should still get the occasional update as a separate driver, again quarterly/ six monthly if there are any performance gains on offer.

I would rather have four quailty driver releases a year where they have had the time to polish them & fine tune them over several months, instead of monthly releases where they have to release 'hotfixes' to solve a issue.

Well the 12.6 beta drivers were fine until I rebooted. Today the screen flickers, and parts of it move around, very weird :). Back to... whatever version I had before. Some 7800 beta drivers or something :).

The one thing I did notice about them was no screen flickering.....yet! Anyone with a similar set up to me feel like there's huge FPS drops in BF3 in big smoky explosions? Doesn't seem as smooth as the 12.4's WHQL and scaling is definitely not as consistent, although I haven't tried the CAP yet but IME they make minimal difference anyway.

Ok so everyone is experiancing different issues, how many have reported them to amd? Beta is beta, if you do not plan to meaningfully test them... TEST...... Then do not download them. Ofcourse there will be some issues, its beta lol.

Seeing that no issues are consistant id say its hardware related personally, the drivers performing better to specific hardware conbinaions or settings.

Try to reinstll, and be prepared to TEST, not supplying feedback = worthless beta tester imö

It is actually worthwhile reading the AnandTech article regarding this as he hits all he salient points regarding why this has happened. Personally I have long since been a proponent to dropping the monthly WHQL's because with their qual cycles the releases get too muddled with the Beta drops that are required.

Doing this speaks nothing of lack of resource (far from it in fact, software continues to expand) or anything like that, it is about improving quality overall whilst still being as dynamic as we can with releases for important updates (i.e. game updates, new GPU's, etc., etc).

With regards to the form, that is just the public face of personel and process changes that have gone in to ensuring that we hear correct feedback for issues such that we can reproduce them and get them resolved. Not many people knew about the feedback form before and we are actively publisings it now in order to encourage issue reporting so that we stand abetter chance of resolving them.

Hope this fixes the common problems regarding atikmpag.sys BSOD's that people are getting but being AMD, I won't hold my breath.
