On some cards a bigger price is justified. For example you will get a very high end quality build for the Red Devil. Is it better to pay less for cards that use cheaper components? This is something worth considering.

Yes but then you can find an AIB card at the same price and it won't be the same quality as the MBA. This is the question, if you don't buy the reference which is great quality, it is better to get a cheaper AIB card or an expensive one with good components? It may run well enough at stock settings but there is also a lot of overclocking/undervolting you can get from these cards. The MBA card has an insanely good build quality though too, just a shame you can't get them easily!!!
I agree, but overpriced is going to become the new normal price.
I don't think they're going to fall back to RRP, at all. AIBs aren't going to want their margins squeezed no matter how much noise AMD makes about "helping" them to reach RRP. It won't happen.
Only tiny amounts of ref cards will hit RRP and we'll all have more chance of winning the lottery than getting one.
As much as I'm not going to lube up, I've accepted now that I'm probably not going to be able to get a 6800XT at all. It's £800 or bust, basically. And I'm not paying that.

Yeah the ref is really good, and AIB are only managing +4% perf or so with their own designs.Anything over £700 and it’s a real waste. Top end partner cards are barely better than the reference because the reference is so good.
Nvidia are also leaps and bounds ahead on the software side. Hopefully AMD can bring something to the party.
Look here compare the Red Devil review with this one for the EVGA 3080. Cheaper components at the same price.

But AMD's RRP is unrealistic. They can't actually be made that cheaply in large numbers. AMD won't make them in large numbers.
They should be seen as an £800 card, because that's what you'll be able to buy them for, realistically. Right now they're selling for £900+, some even over a grand.
who knows, no staff have said anything about AMD for over a weekAre we still expecting to get a bit of a heads up when these are going to be available on the site?
They’re basically pricing themselves out of the market; people are only buying the cards because of availability issues.
The 5700xt was priced much better relative to the competition.
The 5700 XT was very well priced for what it brought to the table, but I don't think we'll see anything like that again in the near future. We've seen price hikes before, and unfortunately I think we're seeing another.
Wasn't much of an upgrade over the vega 64 though, and was a bit slower than radeon 7. The 6 series is that upgrade (finally).

They'll probably just sync the price with the model numberRDNA3 is going to be 5nm from what I recall, so I expect those prices to be even worse when they launch.
It’ll definitely be getting more expensive until stock levels stabilise and the technology becomes more affordable. AMD are going through a massive growth phase so they will increase profits wherever they can.

I might sit the next one out, upgrading yearly is getting a bit silly.

Nabbed myself an Asrock RX 6800 XT Taichi for £739.85 over the weekend, from a competitor.
Just happened to be browsing as it became available for all of about 10 seconds. The only reason I was browsing was because my son wants a 3080 for his birthday in January and we were just about to have a look at the various cards and my browser opened on the competitors page when I fired it up (opens last tabs from previous session).
A tad more than I wanted to pay but with limited availability for the foreseeable future I decided to just go for it. The rest of my system is all Gigabyte so would have prefered one to match but hey ho, it'll do.
Has already shipped, via UPS, for delivery Wednesday. I'm not a fan of UPS, much prefer DPD as their system picks up my name and address and automatically routes it to a Drop Off Shop so I don't have to be in when delivered, but it is what it is, as long as it gets here.
