AMD 8 core RYZEN price

It's certainly not going to be cheap, especially initially. It will be interesting to see what happens with prices in H2 2017.

They still need some sort of £200 to £250 SKU to fight the Core i5 6600K/7700K and unless AMD are thinking of waiting until the APU is released at the end of next year, they would need to release something sooner than later.

OTH,AMD would need to sell salvaged 8C/16T dies too.

If the 8c/16t chip is priced at £500 then I honestly think it may be hard to get hold of one for a while. Assuming performance is in line with expectations of course.

The market for such processors goes well beyond pure gaming.

I'd argue that gaming is probably the last thing you'd want a 16 thread machine for. I've got the itch for more cores and have been pricing dual Xeon workstations for the last year or so, but I can't justify the price Intel want for them for home use

4C/8T is enough for most gamers, and 6C/12T if you want to have a bit more leeway just in case. The top 8C/16T model will be more a halo part and for productivity purposes IMHO OFC.

All I want is a 6core cpu that is higher clocked and goes toe to toe with skylake in games for a good price and I'd get an AMD cpu.

Yeah I don't think we'll see any Zen CPU in that price range. Not in 2017.

Maybe some crappy 4c/4t APU like you said, with RX 460 graphics performance...

Expecting Zen CPUs to be £350+ in 2017. Cue gnashing of teeth and "Brexit" complaints.

^^^ A 6 core AMD CPU that overclocks higher than Intels 4 core offering. Not want much then???

To be fair, all he said there was that he wanted the AMD to be competitive, it's not like he said he wanted it for a pittance.

Is it really too much to ask for AMD to be competitive, performance wise?

I do think the majority of us won't be in the market for the high end January CPU (in the same way we aren't all buying 5960x's) they may be cheaper than the similar Intel offering (expected tbh, not to a point of loss making but they need to price to be ready to fight Intel's response price wise) but it'll still be beyond the usual i7 "k" level pricing.

March is most likely when there will be many of us jump on board if they're decent as there's the rest of line up expected around then. Plenty of time for benchmarks and first impressions to all shake out.

There is a worry amount of "oh I hope my precious Intel can still beat them" type posts here. No rewards for moronic/blinkered fanboyism chaps.

That's why I'm waiting too. Me and the wife are looking to upgrade our machines together, but there's been nothing in the last five years to really warrant it, a not completely unaffordable 6c/8t unit with better IPC and similar clocks should be a worthwhile upgrade from my i7-2700k and her i5-750 :)

If performance is as expected, and it OCs to at least 4Ghz (let alone the purported 5Ghz), and comes to market at this price, stock will be gone instantly, however many units they ship, for the rest of the year.
