AMD Bulldozer Finally!

question, what are you people using all this processing power for, in the real-world? can understand if one is doing a lot of encoding or the likes, but for gaming is there really so much importances placed on the processor, so Sandy Bridge can do Super PI quicker, but does that make it hugely superior in the real-world? only ask because I am in the situation where I am due an upgrade (wanting to go for a much smaller system!) and I am weighing up the options, do I wait for Bulldozer, do I go Sandy Bridge or do I just go for a micro-ATX Llano system, am I really going to notice a huge difference? use system mainly for gaming, media use, hardly ever do encoding or that sort of thing, even if I did not really bothered about an extra seven seconds on the time taken.

If your system is reliable then stick with what you have ATM??

My Q6600 based Shuttle SFF PC is starting to have issues after over 4 and a half years so I built a mini-ITX Core i3 2100 build for day to day usage.

If the Shuttle did not have issues I would have stuck with it as my primary build.

My old 6600q and ati 6950 are playing the games i need now but come bf3 will look to change.Im no fanboy will buy best bang for buck even if amd is not as good i may go that way just depends on price and OC ability.
I will wait for bench's

My 3GHz q6600 / 5850 seems to handle every game I throw at it fine. I'm tempted to upgrade through boredom more than any real need.

same here my Q @ 3.3 is pretty quick (RAM is at 1100 too) - but I fancy a new challenge - I've had my mobo now for almost 5 years !! longest ever

all games run fine though

just fancy something new to play with !!

massive in what sense please (genuinely interessted - need an excuse !)

just in most gaming benchmarks - I'm within 10% or so of similar GPUs (overclocked 480s and stock 580s) on Sandys clocked > 4 gig

my GPU is a 480 @ 835

Just day to day the whole system feels snappier and everything runs smoother and programs load quicker. Even the GF who knows very little about tech commented that it was faster.

Anyone stuck on the same thing as me. I.e. sandy bridge now or wait till bulldozer, get the sandy bridge now, and WHEN BD is released, check the benchmarks then if you want to, get yo ass over to the members market and net yourself a bargain for your i5/1155 components

just got fed up of waiting and bought a sandy system. I was expecting some sort of info from Saturday but nothing even an ETA of sorts would be nice.

I found that getting a faster hard disk or an SSD is more important for making a system feel snappier than getting a very fast CPU. Also,re-installing the OS makes a big difference too.

I bet the prices will be lol.

AMD BD might out perform Sandy Bridge, and they might not, but then Ivy Bridge comes out and we're back to where we are now. :)

Buy the best tech available at the time. No point in waiting for a product on potentially false hopes that it will beat current gen tech, especially one that has been delayed so many times.

If this Bulldozer blitzes Sandy and even Ivy, I'll eat my hat, but I really don't think that's going to happen.

I'm no expert, that's just my 2p.

I use my Q6600 at home and an i5-2500 and while there is an improvement, I wouldn't say its massive. However the difference between my Q6600 and this i7-2600k (at stock) is actually pretty good.

In my mind still not quite worth upgrading for, but if you are feeling limited by the Q6600 I'd certainly say this i7 Sandy Bridges are doing well.
