AMD Bulldozer Finally!

I admit, the new BIOS system is much more favourable to you, and I said the same about AOD along time ago.

But my point was, since you did change board, you could have went Intel, having said that, given how generous AMD were to yourself, I can see why you'd stay AMD regardless, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I mean, I stayed AMD for a long time, I did the Deneb and Thuban overclocking, I was looking forward for BD.. But my optimism was curbed after June's 60-90 days (Which, if you see the conference is official, as it's from the horses mouth)

But the point is just getting an Intel MOBO at the time without the CPU would be a hard move as his current CPU is not compatible.

Oh yeah, it'd require you to spend possibly twice the amount in any one time.
I can see why you've stayed AMD on that basis, I just guess you expected to have BD in it by now.
gigabyte version is window based and i don't think it's on the amd 900 boards
By all accounts it's pretty crappy.

That's from the GA-990FXA-UD7.
Since BIOS F5 you can config your BIOS from Windows with this program.

I hope it comes out on the UD5.
i didn't know that :)

i had a GA-990FXA-UD5 but the overvolting/vdroop was really bad with phenom x6, also it didn't have LLC option and i couldn't fit all my cards in, so i sent it back and got the CH V

But we don't know if Komodo won't have the performance crown, I'm kinda optimistic about it.

Besides that, trinity. It'd be like a faster Llano.

AMD could remain on the same price, but with much better performance to boot. That's what people want. At the moment, there's quite a gulf in IPC between the two players.

Every time AMD release a new CPU its always about optimistic in regards could it match for even exceed Intel's offering for people which that matters to & those people would not budge an inch on buying anything AMD until they have all the facts.

So having a FM2 mobo out right now without knowing what the CPU is capable of would not make them buy the FM2 mobo now anyway.

It does work because people are buying the AM3+ Even now and that's because it it works with the CPUs they own now & as well with BD, lies or not.

AM3+ is just a bit too new to get away with that, imho. It's not that well spread around that it ties a significant portion of people in. There's a lot of perfectly serviceable 700 (and 800?) series boards still around that won't run BD, and unless you've a desperate hankering for SATA 6 gig, there's no sane reason to buy only a motherboard.

I think I'm just grumpy because I was sold the concept of an upgrade path to BD, which was to be out "soon"! It was the deciding factor in choosing Phenom II over the (first) i5, which was decidedly the better chip for the tasks I do. To discover that the promised upgrade path had gone away irked me, because it left me with both a sour feeling of buyers' remorse, AND it put me in a state where my next upgrade has to be both board and CPU - which makes my brand allegiance rather volatile :P

I meant the full platform, CPU and Mobo.

It being new is why people are buying it & the fact is just like to have something new & the BD is a extra incentive.

Why do people with Phenom2 upgrade from AM2+ mobo that were quite capable & there was not a reason at the time of a new CPU for AM3 only.

Only one reason I personally would: RAM. DDR2 is now a crapton more expensive than DDR3 and getting worse. If you're running AM2 with 2 gig, and want 8 or more, it might not be any more expensive to get an AM3+ board and the DDR3, than it would be to buy the DDR2 alone. Actually I think if you want more than 8 gig you really are stuffed on AM2...

Other than that, I wouldn't, no more than I will swap this 79X board for a 99X until there's a convincing CPU upgrade to also put in it :D

Well lets say instead of the AM3+ being here now it was the FM2, the consumer BD is still not here yet, so the problem remains the same the FM2 mobo is here but the CPU is not.

But the reason consumer BD isn't ready, imo is BECAUSE of the AM3+ platform.

Doesn't matter, this is going nowhere :p

I'm not talking about know which reasons are obvious with the state of DDR2 & DDR3 as they are now, im talking about when AM3 was new & pretty much the only difference was the ram type which is less of an impact than a new CPU option.
