AMD Bulldozer Finally!

A week earlier than the last rumour then (but 3 weeks later than the one before that:p)!

QUestion is whether that'll be the day of retailers actually being allowed to sell stock, or if it's just the "official" launch date. We know AMD have been shipping off revenue CPUs for months now,but I think that announcement was for the server chips, so October 12th could well be nothing more than a soft launch, ie. announcing revenue shipments of desktop chips to their OEM partners. Who will of course get all the first batches, I mean if AMD can get HP or Dell to sell BD desktops they'd probably place an order big enough to swallow GF's total output for the first few months! We might not see boxed retail chips for much longer still! :(

I propose the following strategy, then: buy an OEM machine, rip the BD guts out of it and stick your unwanted Thuban heart in it to sell on flea-bay. Pocket the difference and look smug doing it.

This happened 6 or 7 weeks ago ... one of their spokesmen let it slip, then they issued an official statement to the stock exchange (for the benefit of their investors) that Zambezi was shipping for revenue that week (end of July / first week of August).

On this basis, September the 19th (or thereabouts) probably was the original launch date, but got pushed back. I guess they decided they wanted as much product as possible at launch.

You sure that was for Zambezi specifically? I don't remember if the link specified and cba to dig up the link to AMD's blog post, might've been referring to BD generically without specifying desktop or server though.

EDIT: Was it this blog post you were talking about? If so, it says Interlagos :(

Don't think it'll be eligible for VAT, but it would be eligible for import duty. Unless you bought from the duty free shops and were under your allowance.

Sept 19th wasn't EVER the date, the only place that date was seen was in a cartoon, people have since matched the slide used in the cartoon, as a slide from the Phenom 9600 launch, which had the exact same slide showing the 19th.

People reading too much into a freaking cartoon where people reused old stuff lying around. Anyone who is remotely trustworthy in terms of tech sites, said Sept 19th was BS, complete BS.

I think it would be subject to VAT in the same way that if you had it posted from the USA it would be held by Parcelforce until you paid the VAT

looking at the web site, importing computer parts from the states is free of duty but subject to VAT.

Have you anything to declare Sir

15 bulldozers

Gaarn get on with you!

There are companies who will work as a proxy so it will bypass duty and tax as they are sending your item to you and not directly selling it.

I think that's how it works anyway, I only used it once for OEM car parts and it ended up half the price (Euro's so would be cheaper in Pounds again) including postage compared to a dealers quote.

Warranty/Returns would be a right headache though.

man this CPU was suppose to come out weeks after sandy bridge. how come the long delay?

It was meant to do that only in the imaginary promised land of milk and honey. I echo Martini's sentiment in that we are all just mad and delusional in this thread to the point of seeing a mirage when it wasn't there. xD
