AMD Bulldozer Finally!

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter to me if it takes an 8 core bulldozer to trump a sandybridge.

Price is key for me, not to mention motherboards on the amd platform are a sight cheaper, this could be a real winner for a lot of people if amd play it right.

same :)

im not in it for pointless willy waving about 'cores'

if AMD is 10-15% slower than intel but £150 cheaper then thats just fine, i could always OC that last 10% and save the money for something else, especially when the games i run are GPU limited

i read (but im no expert) that in the future new GPU`s many have onboard CPU to carry out instructions so removing cpu bottleneck or at least reducing and increase gpu performance massively

in which case im sure my 1055T will serve me fine until then :D

AMD Bulldozer Finally 25 Day Countdown

Of course we will have to wait for benchmarks but I think bulldozer and sandybridge are going to be very close in performance.

I was thinking that may give AMD the advantage as their socket/platforms generally have greater longevity but Im not sure this time around.

This year bulldozer is gong to be cpu only but next year it will be apu.....so I dont see this years socket having much longevity as I doubt the two will be compatible.

On the contrary I would imagine that sandy bridge will have socket compatibility with next years ivybridge as it is just die shrink.

Id like to support AMD but think the first bulldozer platforms upgrade options are sadley going to be limited.

That would make sense for an engineering sample, motherboard manufacturers have probably had them for 6 months+, might not be absolutely identical to the shipped ones in terms of manufacturing process.

Spoke to Foxconn rep and they said there wasn't any ES, and that was early 2011.
If it was the case, I'm sure Asus would have jumped on AM3+ Support way earlier than now, and they'd have called the at the time unreleased Crosshair IV Extreme AM3+

If there wasnt any engineering samples at the start of this year let alone late last year I would be extremely worried, am sure motherboard manufacturers dont design and test the things over a couple of rushed weeks.

It could have been late 2010, I'm not sure.
But it's when the Foxconn rep appeared, and he was straight up with his answers.
