AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Not yet, its in 4 days time... on the 11th, or perhaps in 10 days on the 21st.

AMD really shooting themselves in the foot, because the closer it gets to the Ivy Bridge coming out, the less likely it is anyone will buy them. Or they'll have to price them so low they'll have a serious hit on profits. If its taken this long to develop R&D costs must be huge, so this is AMD one step away from a catastrophe... IMHO

why do some people seem to take satisfaction from the fact AMD might be struggling to compete with intel? does anyone remember when intel had proper dominance and they completely ripped everyone off... its not like they are exactly cheap even now maybe people like the thought of paying even more for a cpu/chipset just because intel wont have any real competition at all

The thing is with these articles I've seen floating around is, is there anymore info in here and have AMD shown anything? or is this later today as planned?
"AMD at E3 2011
E3 attendees can experience these stunning technologies with their own eyes at the AMD booth (#823 South Hall), which will feature demos of AMD technologies and upcoming game titles including "Orcs Must Die!" from Robot Entertainment and DirectX 11-enabled "Blacklight: Retribution" from Perfect World.2
Then again it sounds like they have something to show.

But then again what makes me laugh is that people say they are hanging on for BD like its going to change there lifes or somthing, how much difference do people really think there will be regarding price/performance compared to Sandybridge. All I see is a load of hot air blowing and speculation with no hard facts.

If the BD was up there with sandybridge performance, I would think AMD would be shouting about it, all these delays and lack of updates points to the fact that the performance is not there.

i think it could be two things

1) AMD hasnt released any info becuase the chips just arent performing how they thought they would so they need some quick fixes before releasing them

2) AMD hasnt released any info becuase they know their chips will blow Intel's out of the water at a fraction of the price and so dont want to give anything away that could prompt Intel to release new ones

Intel won't just sell the most expensive CPU models, they increase their sales by targeting different market segments. Most likely all that would happen is Intel would more closely align their new releases with the points where they could realize the highest returns on investment.

Being honest though, in the last few years Intel have been able to do this anyway.

I'm a bit confused here (perhaps naive, perhaps not). AMD have their Fusion gubbins and various other new parts literally s***ing all over Intel at every angle in some of the fastest growing market sectors like netbooks, low cost server farms, etc, and yet you guys are moaning about some very niche low yield high spec CPUs which pretty much make nothing (infact probably a loss, lets face it).

If I'm in charge of AMD's corporate strategy, I sure know what I'd be pushing?

Of course but what's good for AMD isn't what's good for us as customers, this news is especially bad for AMD fan boys who were counting on Bulldozer being a part of their next build.

Then again maybe some people like to make an informed decision based on all the facts, not saying SB is bad, but it is quite well known now, its not particularly cheap and there could be a more cost effective better solution in the very near future.

No idea. Haven't owned an Intel rig since the days of Duron though (and that's only because my computer before that was a 386!) so no matter how Bulldozer (or Southern Islands) turns out, AMD will be getting my future business for both CPUs and GPUs.

That probably makes me a fanboi, but they work brilliantly and most cost effectively for me so I see no reason to switch from my provider. I just thought the Intel video was funny.

Feels like forever we have been waiting for any bit of news, let alone a release date. Will be good to see what AMD come up with, would be nice for some decent performance/price stuff to come out to hopefully compete, as long as AMD don't do they old 'cheap chips + expensive motherborad combo).

There always will be, thats how technology moves on, you will be always for ever chasing your tail to keep up. But the facts are BD may not be as good, so for those who are dyeing for an upgrade and have been waiting all this time and it doesnt turn out to be as good as Sandybridge, Price/Performance wise then what a waste of time thats been for them.

may be so, but if you currently have a c2q or a phenom which performs adequately in the short term and two newish platforms to upgrade to, it is reasonable to wait a bit until both are available. SB could well be the way to go, but the investment is substantial for either.

Why does it have to be either of the two?

Why can't it be similar to what was between the Phenom IIs and the i5 series, e.g. small performance difference and slightly lower price with cheaper motherboards?

The high-end Bulldozer multi-core CPUs will probably be obsolete for the mainstream market anyway.

It can be better, it can be worse, it can perform similarly, it can cost less or more, including the cost of motherboards.

That's only speculation.

it could very well be, AMD usually price their products to be a more value alternative to Intel - lets hope that is the case with BD as well :)
