**AMD Fiji Thread**

If anyone in the not too distant future happens to have access to a Fury X and one of these,

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-283-EA

A matchup is essential! I appreciate it was Nvidia's decision to refrain from liquid relief and recycle the same cooler for the fifth time but if we disregard that in the interests of rendering honour, this would be a truly fair comparison. Even the load temps are the same!

Watch Kaapstaads benchmark threads for how the cards perform when people have them. With a high enough fan profile (which most people run during benchmarks) even a reference fan card should be good enough to compare against the Fury X.

Its far from the same.

I highly doubt it, but I would like to be proved wrong.

Kaapstad mentioned getting a few (4 I guess like usual :p). That should give enough grunt to see how the frame buffer handles memory intensive games like GTA V, SOM etc etc @ 4K.

I'm a 4K multi-GPU user so I'm very interested.

Well it handles exactly the same way of course it's both memory it stores data for fast access. The speed in both how much can be moved and how fast it can be moved is leagues apart. Well I'm assuming a much lower latency from the reduction in pcb traces.

(I am Jon snow in memory :D)

The way I understand the HBM tech as far, is you have independent control over how the memory does things while with GDDr5 you have one big move which also explains the added ram as you need more ram to do one big move. The solution then was add more ram to get more bandwidth.
It means with Dx12 the developer have a better toy to play with using HBM.

HBM can read data, write data and refresh different memory dies at the same time. GDDR5 rely on a full stream from all modules at the same time to get enough bandwidth.

You might be very interested, but you are also practically irrelevant. Multi GPU users are a tiny minority, multi GPU users at 4k are a smaller minority and users of 4 GPUs are a tiny, tiny minority. So when Kaapstad inevitably tracks down and discovers that 4Gb tanks at a resolution hardly anyone uses at unplayable settings, then I'll think "ok" and then look at the performance figures that 99.99% of Fury X buyers will encounter.

I don't look forward to reading all the "on nine 4k screens with 128xZOMGFXAA 4Gb simply isn't enough, you need 12Gb" posts.

You can tank a Titan x 1080p in witcher 3 so I guess we are far from having the GPU power we need before ram becomes even an issue.

If your like me you buy a Fury

Same Kaap. see sig. :D

Very interesting as always to see people mock up market statistics that they don't really know. People running 1080p with a TITAN x are also probably in that minority if not smaller

Truth is anyone worth their salt and who has used 1440p and above should be interested to see all manner of things regarding Fury's frame buffer, instead of actively choosing to ignore them because they've already made a currently uninformed decision.

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
3096, 60000, 45, 59, 51.600

1440p Ultra everything in both menus maxed (1380mhz OC, Single TX)

And that is prior to the latest patch that increased performance.

SLI with latest patch :

1440p Ultra (everything available to max HBAO+ etc etc) 1304Mhz on the cores only

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
4362, 60000, 65, 82, 72.700

Don't know how your comment is relevant to be honest. See Kaaps post above aswell.

The other thing with regards to HBM making better use of DX12 isn't strictly true as the whole reason for DX12 is to work the efficiency at a much lower level. This includes both reducing the amount of data sent over the bus to the card in the first place and also the amount of data sent through the pipeline once on the card. That's not to say it's not needed as that would be far from the truth - just that it's not really going to make any night or day differences most likely.

I am pretty sure a TX can cope with Witcher 3 at 1080p and hold a solid 60fps.

I play it completely maxed out with hairworks at 1080p on a single 980 and 99% of the time the framerate is between 50 and 60.

So I come to this thread after a few days of not reading it and all I see is Nvidiots harping on about TitanX fps results??? Wasn't this the Fiji thread? Can we have some mods remove the needless clutter please? Yes I know my post can also be accused of the same but I would like to read relevant FIJI information here, if I want to read about TitanX performance (I don't) I would go to the TitanX thread

Hi,

No someone made a false statement so was corrected. You really don't need to get so angry. It's ranting like this that is derogatory to the thread, not showing performance data from a competing card after someone makes a comment on it's performance. This is not the owners thread, the product isn't out yet.
