AMD : FreeSync Monitors Shipping in December – Will Cost $100 Less Than Nvidia G-Sync

I've bought one of the Black Friday LG monitors to tide me over until the freesync monitors arrive next year.

I figured 1440p to be more important than 120/144hz.

When it's working you don't notice it. When you don't have it, then you think your monitor is broken XD it's how I feel losing g-sync so waiting on these free sync monitors very egarly

Very much this.

I have no idea how I gamed on a non G-SYNC setup prior. When it's off the game feels like a 15 FPS stuttery mess.

Hopefully FreeSync can provide the same for Team Red because gaming without such a solution is something I could never go back to.

Why has it gotta be for "Team Red"? IMO if it works well enough or compariable to G-sysc, I'd rather it works for everyone, regardess of it's AMD or Nvidia user, kinda like the DirectX vs Mantle arguement.

One thing I don't like about G-sync is that it is proprietary, and it seriously limit the range of monitors available to choose from. It also forces people to only being able to choose Nvida card for their next upgrade, with no freedom to go AMD even if they want to.

Slight exageration, people are free to use their gsync monitor as a... Monitor, or even sell the monitor and get a freesync one later, it isnt as though anyone is holding a gun to their head and saying "you must buy Nvidia gpu"

Who in the right mind would want to use the Gsync monitor as a normal monitor after spending £150 extra for the Gsync feature? You are just arguing for arguing's sake.

While the Nvidia features and techs may be appealing to the users, for those features that require additional monetary investment will always act as a psychological prison, with the fear of at a loss if leaving Nvidia. Similar to iphone users who bought tonnes of apps they wouldn't really be in the position of considering switching to an Android phone.

People who invested heavily into 3D Visions and the kits wouldn't simply cannot afford to considering the alternative offer, now the same applies for people got Gsync monitors...they MUST stay with Nvidia, if they want the monitors' main feature to contunue to work :o

psychological prison? Can we have some extra hyperbole with that hyperbole

The demographic that buys gsync monitors and the sli system to power it are not going to be bothered about £150 either way, if AMD come up with package that actually competes or exceeds nvidia's then people will switch.

As i've discovered to my own cost, AMD's marketing rarely lives upto the hype.

People who aren't financially constrained buy NVidia because they like well polished products, AMD's Freesync is basically a driver/software hack which is why they are unable to sell it, all of the engineering (which NVidia did themselves) is being done by monitor manufacturers and they will profit from it with increased prices.

NVidia have had a product on the market for months whereas AMD are still waiting on monitor manufacturers to engineer theirs, I wouldn't be surprised if there are compatiblity issues down the line with Freesync either.

I know of many AMD owners who bought the ROG Swift, simply because it is 1440P - 144Hz and the only one of its kind.

Awesome! If that's the case we'll all be able to use it on our current monitors...

Well in fairness, a number of current monitors are capable of running Freesync but it is down to the monitor manufacturer to release a firmware upgrade and that just won't happen. Maybe someone in the 3rd party realm will do it....
