AMD FX Overclocking

-Update-

Had a spare moment just now so kept a vanilla profile to begin with and have just toyed at an offset using 4.5Ghz. Seems realbench stable and maxes out at 60c under full load. Energy saving features turned on so it runs at 1.4Ghz when browsing and guffing about.

Went with an offset of 0.08xx which with the LLC setting of extreme jumps the vcore to 1.47 under stress and stays solid on this.

went for a Raijintek Triton since its about the same price/cheaper than a decent air cooler and will perform well judging by benchmarks.

Will see if I can start breaking past 1.37 and aim for 5Ghz :D

~edit~ superb result. much quieter and knocked 13C off the load temps with a higher ambient present.

aiming for 5Ghz starts tomorrow!

After getting hold of a Crosshair v Formula- z and blocks, I Made a build for my son's when they visit in the summer holidays....

Not compete yet, but getting there....

Looking forward to how far I can push it.(enjoying learning new things)

Hows this looking? I've been running at 4.5ghz for months by upping just the multi but I have a free weekend and thought I could maybe up the FSB instead as it is apparently meant to have better performance?

I found overall fsb yielded a marginal improvement in benchmarks. The best results were a combination of the multiplier and fsb (although it is not referred to 'fsb' these days) and even the same clock speed but using higher fsb had slightly less temperatures on some systems (this may be due to lower voltages needed).

Some issues arise when getting high fsb which make the system more unstable than using the muliplier alone.

I think I must have one of the worst 8320's ever made, can't get 4.6ghz stable even with a Corsair H100 (push/pull) and have been up to 1.480 volts.

But I can get 4.4ghz stable with 1.39x just about.

I have a asus v-formula crosshair z mate, with a superflower 1300w gold psu.

My chip without an OC uses 1.38xv and still fluctuates above 1.404v on cpu-z, can't be a good sign lol

Bummer. Great board that should be able to keep stable.

What do you have your LLC set at? (Is it still called this?)

I've found with mine that I can't really get past 4.5ghz without a substantial increase in volts so today I'm playing around with it at 4.5ghz and going to see how low I can get the volts

All Digi settings are set to ultra fast and CPU advanced setting's are all disabled.

Same with mine but 4.4ghz, anything above and the volts and heat goes up so much it's hardly worth it.

I can get my rig to run fine with less than 1.400v's and with a mild OC (less than 4.4ghz) but it won't pass prime95 or IBT.

Keep us posted!

Hi,

I would like to push my 8350 a little further from 4.7GHZ and currently my air cooler is holding me back

Can you guys recommend an AIO to attempt to get to 5GHZ? I would prefer a 120mm AIO but don't want to run the risk of it not being as good as my air cooler so I could cater for larger if required

Thanks
