AMD Launches FMF2-Amd Fluid Motion Frames 2

Been running this on Starfield for the past few days at 1440p with my 6700xt and it’s made quite a difference. It actually looks ok, tho the crosshairs definitely have artefacts if you stop and look at them. Definitely going to keep using it.
FMF2's strength is-versatility, it covers the whole range from handhelds to top end, and you are clearly seeing the benefits of what AMD's driver level frame gen brings to the table.:thumbsup
 
You don't think Freesync, G-Sync compatable, Adaptive Sync monitors are better Sync tech than plain old V-Sync?
Nope. Not when they introduce what I can only describe as glitches onscreen. Its not tearing but its not smooth either its a kind of vague rippling effect during motion it'd really need a video to show what I mean. Vsync is always smooth and yes its a freesync/gsync compatible monitor.

Got to be something wrong there. No way i would go back to V-Sync after having Freesync Pro on this Samsung G7 240hz. In games where i get 240fps it's like poetry in motion.

Sounds like something is wrong to me. What's the freesync range of your monitor? I've never experienced anything like you describe with VRR.
 
I tried the beta AFMFv2 drivers in Total War:Warhammer 3 at ultra 4K and the results were impressive.

The first version of AFMF didn't work that well, and had lots of stuttering issues in the title.

But AFMF v2 seems much better.

I tried it in several in game benchmarks, and the worst 1% low (FPS) result was 65 FPS, with high averages.

Even the notorious immortal empires campaign benchmark worked well.

AMD's game profile for this game reports frametimes of 10ms (95% percentile).

The in game FPS counter reports lows of between 40 and 45 FPS, so this is what I'd get with a RX 7900 XT with frame generation disabled. I ran the campaign benchmark with AFMF off, and the framerate drops to ~26 on some benchmark runs.

EDIT - I also tried fast camera motions (you can move the camera at the end of the benchmark), and there didn't seem to be any sudden dips in framerate.

I tried it fairly late, and was expecting it not to work that well (as it's a beta /tech preview), but so far it's been fine.

EDIT - It needs some more optimisation I think, as it doesn't seem to always function well in Baldur's Gate 3 - Vulkan API (framerate dips).

EDIT2 - BG3 works better using the DX11 API after some testing. The framerate is more stable (less GPU usage spikes), especially when capped to 80 FPS. So, it also works better when using frame generation, than it does with Vulkan.

Playing BG3 with Framegen is not really needed on my PC, especially since I have a 60hz monitor...

I don't know if it's the benchmark or maybe the encoding but that looks a bit juddery and the pop-in was annoying, but I think it did look a bit better at the higher framerates.
I think one of the key things with all this will be how it feels, can you notice any input lag, etc.

Yes i can see the micro judder, that's entirely Youtube.

I'll upload the original 120Hz file to google drive, its completely smooth.

That sound like it was going outside the VRR range. What is the V-Sync limit and what refresh rate is your monitor set at?

Also you do realise using vsync with a VRR monitor is still using VRR, or do you disable VRR in the monitor settings?

I done a bit of FG and FG+AFMF in game testing with AFOP using custom settings back when it launched and the fps you could reach is quite incredible tbh.

Maybe do a revisit with FMF2.
