AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

We are assuming that two navi's (251mm2) joined together is roughly 2x navi (500mm2)... we are also making assumptions on redundancy in the silicon parts of the gpu that you aren't just doubling up etc also all assumptions are based around what we know of rdna1 not rdna2 and its changes. I seem to read everywhere that 80cu's is 500mm2 based on nothing but pure speculation. Now if we make a different assumption things change somewhat and all of a sudden there is a little more space, I don't think necessarily that 500mm2 = 80 cu is what I am saying! 500mm2 could be 96 CU's for example with some disabled.

Salty speculation for now but 80cu's sounds like a start to me.

If it is on N7P it might end up more densely packed than normal N7. I know Zen3 is supposed to be on the N7P but I am not sure about big Navi, it's interesting to speculate though.

I think Nvidia will still be quicker product-for-product, especially ray trace, but at the cost of power/heat and eye watering pricetag(s).

You can say the same thing for Navi since the big RDNA2 Navi is rumoured to be 400w. We've gone full circle - you're saying Nvidia is 400w to catch up to AMD and AMD is 400w to catch up to Nvidia.

We're in GPU-Ception territory.

I think you're right - Nvidia is worried and is trying to get more performance, hence why we're seeing massive TDP rumours from what was an historically power efficient Turing lineup and on a new 7nm node. But the question becomes why is AMD also trying to push record breaking TDP, that I don't know the answer to

If these cards are indeed in the 400 watt range i can't see them bothering with air cooling, maybe the leaked coolers we've seen so far are for the lower end boards while the top end get a 140mm or so aio? An aircooler on a gpu with that wattage is going to be loud virtually no matter what they do.

Indeed , I would have loved a 5ghz part. instead I get a 3700x which can't single core boost to 4.4ghz. Its why I take his and MLID "leaks" with a pinch of salt
Yeah I was also looking forward to upgrading to a 5Ghz Zen 2 thanks to Jim's forecasts/predictions, it never happened so I suppose I saved some money. I'm not believing anything from anyone especially not Jim about either vendor until I see independent benchmarks. All the speculation is exciting though and I hope AMD and Nvidia come out swinging.

You are not supposed to believe it though. He gets fed information which may or not be true and tells you his theories on it. The actual truth will come around on release of the products. The only real information at the moment is rdna 2 in the consoles which is fact and gives a decent outlook on what may be possible from the AMD side. Turing is also a decent gauge on what Nvidia might be able to do with a shrink and some improvements as far as Ampere is concerned. I think it's going to be a lot closer than we have been used to but overall my money would be on Nvidia still having a lead. If that doesn't turn out to be the case then we might be in for some exciting times.

To be fair there's logic to his analysis of the information regardless of the eventual accuracy. Not thing is definite until release ;) His accent helps differentiate the channel too.
I just watch it for the accent. Alright guys, how’s it goin? At that point I am done and turn it off :p

On a serious note, I do watch some of his videos, depends on my mood or how busy I am though. These days I usually stay away rumour type sites or channels if I can, usually it’s just a waste of time. I get more entertainment coming and posting here. Plus plenty people post and discuss the info here so I save time by not watching it :D

So one should just watch a fake news channel then? :p

Lol no, one should air on the side of caution when watching as there is a good chance he was fed a load of bull. He basically mentions salt in the majority of his videos which is a warning to all watching that the leak may be off the mark.

We know 90% the channels / websites get these wrong but at the end of the day it's entertainment. Like most things we enjoy in life is fake :D

I do enjoy AdoredTV least he goes into a lot of detail on why he thinks the leaks or true or false.

What are you talking about? As a Marvel, WWE and Archer fan, how dare you claim most enjoyable things are fake! :p

Yeah just use judgement, unless it comes directly from the company I would always reserve a pinch of salt to go with it.

I know man. Just enjoying messing with you ;)

I completely agree with what you are saying, fake news is the best kind of news, much more entertaining :p

I threw in the towel with any internal cooling solutions about a year ago and have gone full external with 8mm quick-disconnect tubing.

Is it just me or do both AMD and nVidia seem to be putting out a lot of misinformation to the tech channels?

I think AMD especially have been keeping things quiet and understated.

Could they have finally learned after being burned numerous times in the past for hyping their GPUs only to have them ridiculed after release.

Plus, does this signal confidence within the red team about their upcoming next gen?

The vast majority of the hype is manufactured by supposed rumours and forum posts, a vendor could say absolutely nothing on the run upto a release and still people would say that "AMD promised this or NVIDIA promised that", mainly because people take rumours and click-bait articles as set in stone fact for some weird reason. AMD and NVIDIA i doubt very much are engaging at all in any kind of information or disinformation, the so called "tech sites" are doing that of their own accord for the most part.

You're probably right and there is definitely a tendency to believe every rumour published by all the various YT channels and tech sites, even when they contradict each other and themselves from one day to the next

Yup, i still remember the fury x launch, all these tech sites with "insider info" etc were grasping at straws to tell us how much vram it had. One day it was 4, next day it was 8, then it was 6 at one point. Just literally throwing **** at a wall to see what sticks.

It really does boggle the mind about how much of a frenzy gets whipped up about getting a few extra fps in a game with a new card for the most part.

Yeah. Like if AMD do not release a Nvidia killer many will be majorly disappointed. Needs to hands down beat Ampere!
