Ryzen 9 5900X won't be cheap anytime soon, especially not at the moment of Zen 4 launch.
It will be years and if only there are considerable performance improvements coming.

I never said cheap, I said cheaper.
Look at the 3900X. On its release it was selling for around £480, Now can be had for £360 on a deal.

Maybe we won't see as big a drop but it will.

Yup, this!
I'll probably upgrade my GPU first then see what's happening with the 5900X prices or if there is an XT release near the AM5 launch. That should then last me a good number of years.
Yeah. A XT version that can get to 5GHz and I will be golden for 5+ years after that at least. In no rush whatsoever to upgrade now and will only upgrade once the opportunity presents itself either with a good deal brand new or a very good deal on members market. It will happen, just a matter of time my guess is in 18-24 months time :D

The normal 5900x has been hitting 5GHz already in the benches leaked

Big Navi cu wise 15% ipc lift ( vs rdna1) and clock speed.
It means the 64 cu big navi can go toe to toe with the 3080 and the 3070 is DOA.
The 72cu one we already see are beating the 3080.
The 80cu looks like a 3090 beater.

Fun time ahead few days now to go

If that’s true and translates to game performance then no way they will undercut Nvidia significantly, maybe £50 quid or so at each tier.

if it’s true they won’t undercut them at all they will be priced the same or more.

but I don’t think the price will matter much in the end anyhow the nvidia 3080 was supposed to start at 649.99 and let’s be honest very few have paid that. AIB was even worse for it very few was sold for that amount. Amd no matter what I don’t believe could make the required number that everyone could buy one and the cards will suffer with inflated prices at all levels.

ive allways said it that amd needed to be behind nvidia (not by much a few %) to keep prices in check if the leaks are true I can see amd matching the inflated prices of nvidia on day one :( sorry

Did AMD not undercut Intel significantly with Zen?

amd was allways beind intel in some meaningful way though till possibly zen 3. Waiting on reviews to say there in front with zen 3.

but look at the zen 3 price now if they have taken the lead they now setting the own price

And if the leaked benchmarks are true, AMD will be behind nVidia in a 'meaningful way' for RT... so they should be massively undercutting if they follow the same pattern, no?

That was only because they were losing in outright gaming performance, now that we've seen since Zen 3 takes the gaming lead, they've bumped prices up by $50, so if RDNA2 takes the gaming lead, don't expect cheap prices, as Lisa Su has said, the don't want to be seen as the budget option anymore, they want to be seen as the best.
