AMD Plans Major CPU Price Drops Day After "Conroe"

What you guys do my position. I have the rig in my sig. I'm looking to upgrade but I don't wanna spend too much. I'm thinking maybe wait for price reduction and grab myself a 939 X2.

Prob spend around £300, should i save my £££ for conroe or purcahse an X2 with price reductions?

Only the CPUs with 512KB cache get reduced...a bit disappointing.
was just about to post that myself :(

if i go dual core, i'd want something that performs on par with my current CPU at stock speeds

i've got a 4000+ so 1mb L2 cache and 2.4GHz at stock, admittingly it only clocks to 2.6GHz (anything over 2.7GHz and it just isn't stable.)

so i've had my heart set on an X2 4400+ for quite some time now.
its 2.2GHz at stock speeds and has 1mb L2 cache and should easily clock to 2.4GHz or 2.6GHz

*sigh*
nevermind :(

Notice that the price of the FX60 doesnt seem to change, and that there is no FX57 in the list. Check out the price of the X2 3800, i really like the look of that.
if that x2 3800 gets converted to £ for that price, then im def buying it and missing conroe altogether :)

i say that now....but when conroe does come out...who knows! argh AMD slash prices NOW!

Yeah...that would have probably sealed my fate.

Well if we do a direct currency conversion then add on our 17.5% we get:

X2 5000+ = £256
X2 4600+ = £192
X2 4200+ = £153
X2 3800+ = £107

Then we can prolly bung £10-20 on top of that for the UK rip off factor.

The 3800+ is going to be a great chip for about £125, putting it on about the same price point as a 3700+ Sandy :D

The 3800x2 for that much would be killer, although we have yet to see how much the E6600 will be(does anyone know?)..

Wow - just read your post about the 3800 prices, and thought I'd check out the store (the one I suspect emailed you) :

Retail 3000 £61.45inc
Retail 3200 £69.70inc
Retail 3500 £77.96inc
Retail 3800 £96.80inc

Looks like AMD are getting nervous already !!

:O When are these kind of prices due [edit - dumb question considering title!)? I like the price of the 3800+!!!!

Those prices are available now. ;)

If those X2s do come down to those prices, I may just get one of them instead of conroe.....

Does anyone know if the next gen AMD CPU will be on the AM2 socket?

I got a feeling that the 4600+ and the 5000+ wont recieve the full 50%, I mean it won't look right you can get a 4600+ cheaper than a 4400+ etc.

AMD Athlon64 3700 San Diego OEM 2.2GHz Socket 939 1MB Cache £95.95 exc, £112.74 inc.

Not bad...

we want cheaper x2's tho! :p

Yeah but nearly everyone wants the 1MB L2 cache for willy waving! That's why the Conroe E6600 and upwards will be great for willy waving, 4MB!
