AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

Why is Nvidia the main talk in this AMD thread? I understand the news is slow and we all want some info but Nvidia bashing/praising isn't the news I want to read about. Anyways, as time goes on I am sure we will get some leaks and some of them will be correct but most will be wrong but I look forward to seeing what is what. I personally can't wait for Polaris and the sooner the better.

Plenty discussion about Polaris, Nvidia/AMD is always always talked about when one is mentioned, you know that.

Personally hoping Pascal takes ages as the longer it takes to appear the longer I get top notch driver support as it will just nose dive when my 970 gets replaced.

just get a pascal card you cheapskate ;)
its not like you need to upgrade floor tiles :D

Melodramtic much? Nvidia are NOT the main talk in this thread apart from the last few pages when D.P. and Dave 2150 started trolling each other.

Not really, just sick of reading massively off topic crap. It wouldn't be so bad if it was decent talk but it is all basically garbage.

It's normal for these types of thread to go off topic by the very fact the news is slow. IMHO Implying Nvidia is the main topic in this thread was an exaggeration and maybe I was being melodramatic by accusing you of being melodramatic. :)

I knew what you was saying and probably I was being a bit OTT but yer, slow news brings boredom and the topics do go awry. It does seem to be the same few people who disrupt decent threads and before long, it has descended very much like this post and off topic nonsense.

Here is hoping we get some decent news soon to get back on topic :)

This could be the official tagline of the graphics cards section. :D

Cant really take anything from the Zauba shipping reports, I mean the Fury X2 one was back on November 26th and hasn't seen the light of day yet whereas according to that list the Fury X was 26th of June where it was actually launched on the 24th June. So it doesn't really mean much, except that it is getting closer, but we knew that as they showed the small card off at CES.

DAMAGE CONTROLL!!!11!!! PANIC !!1111!!! OMG!!!1123211

Why are you so anti-AMD, you are not allowed to post facts in this thread!! You have to praise the AMD gods, the truth isn't allowed here!

As much as I hate to agree with the above, there is some thruth in it.

The truth in it is AMD cards slowed clawed back some performance against NVidia, but that is where the truth ends. Any conspiracy theory about Nvidia purposely sabotaging performance is just tin-foil hat loony bin madness from irate fan boys.

AMD having immature launch drivers and making big gains down the road is nothing new, and it has absolutely nothing to do with Nvidia drivers.

Yup, Nvidia publicly releasing a 'fixed' Kepler driver almost immediately after the media finally started talking about Kepler's dire performance is fan boy nonsense that literally never happened.

That the same complaints were made for AAA titles for the previous 6 months but ignored and being fixed as soon as media started to comment on it because the level of performance dropped to a new absurd amount on the Witcher 3 is a mere coincidence.#

Kepler dropped relative to Maxwell as well as competing AMD cards and the fixed drivers gained vs AMD and Maxwell, after your boys all ran about making up reasons why Kepler just wasn't suited to Witcher 3 and how Nvidia doesn't neglect the past gen card's drivers.

Weren't similar results shown for older AMD cards suffering as well?

I can't remember the entire thread but someone pointed it out if I recall correctly.

So is Nvidia not allowed to fix a bug?

Where is the source for this?

IS Nvidia not allowed to improve drivers for a new architecture, or do they have to purposely reduce performance of the new hardware just so the old GPUS don't look so bad? It is not Nvidia's fault that AMD released poor release drivers and AMD worked hard to improve performance. Do you Nvidia to sabotage AMD" drivers so AMD cards don't improve? Or Do you want Nvidia to help AMD write better launch drivers so AMD show less performance gains? I just don't get what angle you are trying to play here, I don't understand how these conspiracy theories work.

No one said Kepler wasn't suited to Witcher 3, people just rightly pointed out that the Maxwell architecture is up to twice as fast as Kepler at certain functions which is exactly what appears int he Witcher3

Yes, because drivers from both sides need constant work to maintain performance. A great example is the BF4 performance in Mantle with the FuryX, it was miles behind the 290X, purely down to lack of driver optimization.

Both AMD and Nvidia obviously focuses on their newest products for driver development which is exactly why Maxwell and Fiji cards take a big lead over older generations, and then the driver team get to work on older hardware and sorts out performance there.

The reason the 200 series cards get performance increases at the same rate as the 300 series is purely because they are just re-branded so the same driver works on all GPUS. Nvidia have different architectures and need to write separate drivers, Kepler support comes after Maxwell in priority. Perhaps Nvidia should just make more rebrands if people think that older hardware should get the same drivers as newer hardware
