AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

I think you are being a bit optimistic with that assumption. The 1070 is supposed to be faster than a Titan X, and a 480 is touted as a 980 contender.

Well, the 480 is supposed to be close to Fury performance, a bit under, at stock. The 1070 is a bit over at stock isn't it? Overclocking could come into it but we have no idea how AMD will do at the moment do we? I suspect that Nvidia will do better but if they don't, I can't see anyone paying over £200 more for a card which isn't that much faster. It is literally twice the cost if they are really trying for £399.

I wonder what the 8gb version will cost in GBP £230, maximum?

Realistically do you guys think we will see a 480x or 490 this year? Surely 390x level performance isn't the best polaris can do?

price for the 4Go is 165£ , and 190£ for 8Go, including VAT
you probably gonna need to add shipping cost, think will be 179/199£ mostly

Lisa Su mentioned Polaris gpu's from $100-$300 and RX480 is only $199 so we can expect more variants.

Also people are forgetting that the 14nm process should allow higher clockspeeds and the 480 appears to be running at only 1266MHz which is not much higher than the previous gen gpu's.
I think a 480X could feature higher clockspeed as well as more CU's and stream processors giving 980ti level performance.

480 is between 970 and 980 performance, The 1070 is TitanX.

You are looking at a pascal 1060 to complete with the 480.

I guess overclock ability could come into it if AMD are a bit crap on that front.

That was after pushing 22nm to breaking point they are on a new node now so there is every chance overclocking is back on. I don't think the 14nm cards are maxed out at stock like Fiji was either. Could be wrong guess we will wait and see.

The process allows higher click speeds, or lower power, or any tradeoff between the 2. If the clock speeds got a smaller bump it is because AMD used the advances in the process to lower power consumption, which is exactly what we see.

I am not sure on the 480X coming, as I would expect the 480X to come first and typically, the failed chips make the next card down (the 480). Not saying that it isn't coming but just not soon.

I really like how AMD have a goal with Polaris, bringing VR to the masses. I've yet to see the same sort of end goal with nvidia other than charge through the nose for beefy GPUs.

Definitely going Polaris this round, going to wait on benchmarks before moving from my 970.

If AMD can do a gtx980 with 8gb for under £250 i might begetting my first no nvidia card since geforce came out.

This is most likely going to be the case. A straight conversion + vat Is a hair under £200. Add the UK import taxes and markups fir different markup and I can see around £220.

I don't think you will see much of an upgrade from your 970. I think the 1070 or 2nd hand 980ti/FuryX us your best bet for an affordable upgrade.

Hm..

Until the headsets are more reasonably priced, vr will not be coming to the masses regardless of relatively small (compared to headset prices) differences in gpu prices

There needs to be a lot more PC's out there capable of running VR for the headset prices to come down. That's the whole goal of bringing VR class Gpu's to the mainstream. At this moment only high end gamers will buy a headset most likely.

Since when does a GPU need some 'goal'? Nvidia have put out the fastest GPU ever seen, which is worthwhile in and of itself for enthusiasts. They're also putting out a GPU that gives the performance of the top end cards from a month ago at £150-200 cheaper.

What AMD is doing is commendable, though I think its VR-centric marketing wont make much difference when VR setups still cost what they do, but there's merit in what both companies are doing, addressing different concerns.

Well people need decent PCs before spending the cash on VR. Without the PC people won't spend the cash on VR.

If people start paying for VR then VR prices will start to fall bring them cheaper and better competition.
So I fully agree with AMDs aim here.

I think amd will sell the 480RX very well.
