AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

The thing is i doubt Pascal was only finalised after DP 1.4 release, IE April, literally weeks ago...

I don't think Polaris is any different in this rearguard to Pascal, Pascal has DP 1.4 because it was compatible, i don't see why the same would not be true for Polaris.

There might be time to reflash it if they haven't mass produced already and their encoder/decoder block has enough bandwidth. But if you look at Amd's history with the GCN1.2 then Amd messed it up a little.

Aug 2014 Tonga only had uvd 5.2 and hdmi1
Jun 2015 Fury had uvd 6 but only hdmi 1, fury x2 still the same yet delayed.
Jun 2015 Carrizo had uvd 6 and hdmi2.

If AMD launch without 1.4 it will be a massive fail, outdated ports twice in a row, the forum warriors will have a field YEAR with this and AMD will no longer become known as the brand pushing new tech but the cheapo bungling rebranding skimping on costs company.

Unfair perhaps but that's why you keep constant dialogue open with partners and don't give your enemies ammo. If it comes out that they weren't even talking to VESA at the time (as happened with certain games that ran poor on launch for AMD) their reputation will be nigh unsalvagable. They were part of the initial group that formed it!

Where are those people who said Pascal = Maxwell and doesn't have async in hardware now? :P

(OK we are yet to actually see it in action).

According to Nvidia Maxwell also has A-Sync, have we seen that in action?

I'll refrain from judgement until all the hype is actually put to the test.

Can someone answer me why AMD are Doomed, DOA, or failed if they don't have DP 1.4?

All i see at the moment is a lot hot air and no substance.

No idea. I kind of understood when fury x a top of the line card did not have it. But in this case dp 1.3 will be more than enough for these cards. By the time I own or most people own a monitor that needs dp 1.4, I assure you, we won't be on these gpu's as they wont be adequate.

Hence it is not a issue for me personally this time around. But you know what people are like here. Lol.

I love new GPU launches, the whole forum blows up with religious fanaticism.

People will attack them regardless of the tech available on the monitor market.

They will be going on about DSC, 10bit this, HDR that. Only hope is another Maxwell situation where the port turns out to be a pre-release version and not capable of the good stuff.

I'm just going to kick back and pick up whatever is fastest in a few months.

Yup.... my 970 is serving me well enough so far, although i am starting to feel a little inadequate now, reduced masculinity

When i know for sure whats what i'll regain my manhood with a more manly card, whatever colour the right card may be.

I just want something ~2x the speed of my GTX 780 for ~£300-350.

If Polaris 10, or a clocked 1070 can do better than that, I'll be very happy.

I do think Amd has something up their sleeve, with polaris or Vega, as have Nvidia clocked the 1080 really high at 2.1 and not sure how much headroom the 1080/70 has left or that could be just to beat the 980ti/titan X.

Some other news is that the 2.1ghz clocking was on cherry picked parts. Which is what the founders edition of the 1080 will be.

Oh come on, DP 1.4 is not going to start being required to get the best from monitors anytime soon. Mid Polaris and Pascal will not even be powerful enough to get 120hz at 4k in non HD in mGPU, let alone adding HD into the equation.

If its already boosting to 1.7Ghz+ to do that 2.1Ghz would be +23%, ~0.7 of that would translate to actual performance, so about 15%.

Problem is i think if AMD had something worth shouting about we would have seen it already, considering their ever diminishing market share, the disappointment of constant rebrands and lacklustre reception of the Fiji cards, the debacle of the "Overclockers Dream" i think AMD need to come out hard as for many (myself included) this is the last chance from AMD to keep our custom and take our money.

I just dont think they have anything to match Nvidia, so what if those new cards are clocked high, if the 1070 is trading blows with a 980ti and priced around £300, that makes an absolute mockery of the Fury-X, let alone the other AMD Cards, especially considering the 1070 is probably the lowest tier of the Pascal Enthusiast cards, AMD then have to beat the 1070, 1080, 1080ti and 1080 Titan, all on performance and price...

Cant see it happening myself, especially not with rebranded trash they keep lobbing out, i still own and use a 290, its been a brilliant card, but AMD have given me ZERO reason to ugprade to a 390 as its pretty much the same card, and the Fury / Fury-X cards are hardly enticing me either, prior to the Pascal reveal, i wouldnt consider a Fury card as for a little mroe i could buy a 980ti which is the much better card.

Like i say, AMD need to come out with something truly earthshatteringly great to even make me want to give them my money, basically they need the second coming of christ.

Yeah, a GPU running at 1.8GHz with a 2.1 OC is around 17 percent, nothing spectacular really but not horrible (Fiji horrible) ;)

Nah, read nothing into it, its not how they do it, they should, but they don't. as i said before...

They did exactly the same with Hawaii, Nvidia with the original Titan... nothing from AMD, not a peep. romours were rife of a new card but everyone said "AMD doomed, there is no way AMD can match the Titan on 28nm......" ecte....
Then one day out of the blue the 290X appeared and it beat the Titan. even on a junk cooler.

That same card is still with us today, its actually that good after a couple of tweaks it now competes with the GTX 980. In DX12 with a 980TI
