AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

It’s not a good time to release details to the press at the moment. The thing is most of the tech press is all excited about the all-expenses paid for press event Nvidia laid on for them so they could tell them that after $17 billion of R&D investment and a 75% shrink in the process they have managed to conjure up a whopping 20% increase in performance.

Naturally we all very excited about this 20% so I would expect AMD to wait until the end of the week or maybe early next week to release some news about Polaris. If they release a statement today it will get lost in noise and won’t have the same impact as a statement released on a slow news day.

This is very true. But they could just leak something small for the time being I would have thought.

Maybe AMD does not want to release any info before launch as it would give time for Nvidia to react even if it means price cutting current products?

At this point I would expect both AMD and Nvidia to have a pretty good idea of what the other is doing. Everything is so far advanced, there's not much room to move on anything except price. Nvidia doesn't have to react until AMD give something to react against.

Right now, Nvidia can enjoy a price premium for being here first, and then drop when AMD ship products. AMD can only spoiler to prevent sales going to Nvidia, but they don't seem to be inclined to make the effort.

Honestly why should they worry?
The 1070 is 380$
AMD said they want the VR ready cards cheaper than 390/970, and if Polaris 10 is the successor of the 380(X) which had a 249$ price, then it will probably launch between 250-300$ So they won't even compete with each other.

AMd will not disclose anything and I doubt the actual performance for Nvidia cards is known by AMD and vice versa. We will now the performance of the 1080 soon when reviews come out so there is no need for AMD to show their cards at all. Besides, if you look at the AoTS benchmark for the 1080 it actually looks weaker than overclocked 980ti/TX's so all the current hype may be for nothing.

source please

source please

Really you gave it the *rolleyes* for that part? Please think it through a bit more before posting. :o

The press event has been reported on just about every major tech site or Youtube channel.......it's common practice to invite selected members of the press to report this stuff and in this case the exchange is that Nvidia gets coverage of Pascal on every major website and social media outlet. And it's not exclusive to tech companies either the company I work for and the my last company does the same thing.

NVIDIA GTX 1080, Polaris 10 and Polaris 11 Ashes of Singularity DirectX12 benchmarks leaked

Im either looking at it wrong, or the P10 is getting mullered off the Fury ?

Even tho Fury is still king in DX12 i think thats fake. Polaris 10 performance is like a 7970.

its only "king" at the highest res at the highest settings, by 1 or 2 fps and at unplayable settings... at 1080 and 1440 it swings way in the other direction

obviously having 1440 I'm far more interested in what happens in that region

So you have not one shred of evidence that this was the case here, ah speculation, the new fact

Experience lad, experience. If Nvidia were changing the press most wouldn't have even bothered showing up.

Yup it is pretty damn shocking just how many people are oblivious to how businesses and marketing works.

Just look at what all the game companies do when a new game is about to be launched i.e. battlefield franchise and most of ubi's games, they fly out all the popular youtubers/twitch streamers to the big events as in, they pay for their flights and/or hotel rooms, most youtubers like anderzel have said this themselves in those promotional videos talking about the event/product.
