AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

The amd guy said it was 150w tdp in the linus video,it has 1 6pin power socket.

I think the $199 card will come with 4gb memory,the 8gb version will be more expensive.

Also there a picture in the gamers nexus video showing 2 480s in cross fire,so dont think there making a dual gpu card.

Wouldn't read too much into it as nvidia and amd have been known to report tdp values differently. We'll just have to wait until the end of the month to find out just how well it performs and how efficient it really is (not releasing more info at this stage has got me worried).
 
Why is there less detail on the Polaris to the left? Im not impressed at the moment, and Im an AMD fan.

150W is based entirely on the fact that it has a single 6-pin PCIe power connector (75W from the slot and 75W from the 6-pin). There's usually a good amount of headroom in the power connectors provided, so it should be less than that in real terms.

It looks like there's a lot more snow on the left, which is obscuring the detail. Looking at the mountains in the top left, they're a lot more covered in snow in the left screenshot, with only the peaks showing. Does AotS have some sort of dynamic weather feature? I'd agree that it's a rather unfortunate comparison either way, as the snow is hiding a lot of detail in the middle of the image.

The leaks we've seen thus far indicates that AMD might actually have a winner on its hands, as the early Pascals aren't faring any better in DX12 games compared to the last gen (they need to put in a lot of grunt to pull off a win against the Fury X). Price is also an important factor as if Polaris 10 can match a GTX 1070 in dx12 titles, and are priced much lower, most people would chose a Polaris over a GTX 1070. I am sure the GTX 1060 won't stand a chance.

The issue is, as I understand it, Kyle did get invited. In fact, AMD offered to pay his amd his family's way to Macau which he rightfully took as untoward.

In fairness this was always going to be the case, as soon as we saw there was an NDA until June 29th.

You don't put the trivial details under an NDA and then do an event giving away the big details.

It's the other way round, and so it proved to be.
 
Um. Looks like it may come down to the RX480's power consumption for me but overall what they did show is kind of pushing me towards the GTX 1070 as being better value in totality. Just a gut feeling, hope I'm wrong.
 
Supposedly the price for the 4GB version is $199 which would be £165 and for the 8GB version is $230 which is around £190 with VAT.

So between GTX970 and GTX980 level performance - that leak a few weeks ago on Chip hell said close to an R9 390X so was correct.

So it seems for that 25% more performance with the GTX1070 you are paying at least £130 maybe more. That would work out as nearly 70% more for 25% more performance.

Plenty of the other large tech forums seem quite excited about the card.

My viewpoint let them spend 70% more for 25% more performance.

They expect AMD to give them a GTX980TI for £200 and then probably won't buy one anyway.

Anything AMD will do won't be good enough.

I said for months this is the level of performance we would get but with lower pricing and power consumption.

I said for months this would replace the R9 380 series cards.

It is a massive improvement over the GTX960 and R9 380 with probably close to double the performance and probably close to 50% over the R9 380X with double the VRAM.

That is a huge generational increase.

Many of the people having a go at it here said it needs to be sub £200.

The moment it does they still criticise.

No point dude.

There isn't really such a thing as a bad graphics card, assuming it is priced correctly.

I know quite a few people on older cards (mostly people with gtx760s) who would love performance close to the 980 but don't want to spend more than £200-£250. This is who these cards are aimed at, and if they do get the price right, I think AMD can gain a fair amount of market share if they price carefully.

Those of us with 290s or higher might as well wait for vega. It's still interesting to see how the lower end parts play out as we can extrapolate performance for bigger chips.
