AMD R9 290 (Non-X, Pro, etc) Owners Club

It is? I've not used X79 myself but Z87 is indeed tricky, so many variables to contend with. Particularly once you add cache clocking into the mix. Superb platform for ram clocking though.

I found it a lot easier, I mean compared to sandy...maybe not as simple, but not complicated either. Mems on Z97/87 is better though.

Really want X99 just don't think I can justify the price for the 8 core.

There's Mantle meaning you don't need these expensive CPUs and Mantle evangelist LtMatt goes and gets the top end SB-E CPU and 2011 Mobo! Lost faith in Mantle LtMatt? :)

The 6 core will not make the blindest bit of difference to Mantle from his 4 core, its already beyond CPU bottlenecking with Mantle.

In the same way his CPU will make no difference to me in Mantle from my CPU.

in DX and with DX benchmarking, it will make a huge difference. :)

Pushing three GPU's needs more then just Mantle

Mantle runs superbly well on my 2700K and three 290's. I'm not getting a 6 core to improve those situations. However in DX11 titles the extra cores and threads will certainly help in the various bench threads on this forum.

You're doing it for DX?
But DX12 should have much the same impact shouldn't it?
Plus if 75 developers are using Mantle, who's left?
Can't you just wait until Mantle is out of Alpha/Beta and everyone uses it for every game?

Just seems like an expensive upgrade for benchmarking DX games until Mantle takes over the world.
Kaap bought them before we had Mantle, plus Kaap is a serious Benchmarker with 4 of the top end GPUs from AMD and Nvidia. To the level where he needs/wants 2 PSUs! :)

Can't turn down a 6 core cpu at a good price and no i don't want to wait for DX12. It's time my 290's had a capable cpu to drive their performance.

Yeah it's the next thing i will upgrade. Looking at the 1200W superflower, but may end up going with a more powerful one.

More, definitely more.

I am not a great fan of this notion of running these superflower PSUs at near maximum, I think people are asking for trouble.

With 3 290s an intel Hexcore and Asus GPUTweak I would have no trouble using about 1400 watts. Don't forget my quadfire system has been measured @1778watts and I think on some things it uses even more.

Where the power draw using 4K goes up my poor Titan rig EVGA 1500watt PSU really suffers (even though it is supposed to be able to handle 1650watt peaks).

I won't be adding any more gpu's though and i won't be doing extreme overclocks, not on this rig anyway. What would you recommend?
