**AMD Radeon 390X Graphics Card WCE**

Why are we all assuming that it's going to beat the new titan, The expectations from the beginning of all the rumours where never at that level. where they?

Also, Why are we expecting them to go up against the titan x ? Over a 980 I agree.

Think we are asking a bit much for AMD to go up against a £900 or so card and would be let down when it falls short of the goal post.

The release of the TX came very quickly so the talk of the 390x had already started..

Well at the moment they are comparing the TX, 980 and the 290x so it would make sense for the 390x to be as good as the TX. Like said before, these cards really show their stuff at higher resolutions.

Of course.

From where I'm sitting it seems Nvidia are more focused on the GPU business than AMD at the moment, AMD look kind of lost and confused from the battering they are taking off Nvidia.

Nvidia released their GPUs on schedule, and AMD will do the same on their schedule. Why are they lost?
Also if the rumours are right, the 390X will be around the same performance and needs about the same power as the titan x (but probably with a much better cooler :D )
The so called "modified" 290X will be the one go against the 980, and i expect at least comparable perf/power ratio as on the nv side.
The 3XX lineup will be new chips, and as probably both companies know what the other is planning, AMD too is working on power efficiency as well.

I disagree with that mate, AMD just don't have as much revenue and are now picking their fights more carefully. Not answering Maxwell early might have been their best option. AMD is all about GPU, not just in PC but console / elsewhere etc. They are busy working on a lot of different things right now.

Once 390/390X launches people will ease off AMD, remember AMD aren't as financially capable as Nvidia / Intel.

290/290X still represent the best overall value cards imho. Nvidia have just launched cards with performance tiers above at much higher price points and diminished value VS performance. 980/Titan X. 960/970 do represent good value cards although the 970 fiasco has soured the 970 somewhat.

970 killed off 290/X sales dodgy Vram or not.

AMD need a big boost, non of this 10% faster garbage over Nvidia cards whist using a load more power, only for Nvidia to release a GPU a month later kicking it to the kerb because of higher clocks which will no doubt happen with the 390X v the 980ti, if AMD can only pull off paltry performance increases.

They did it against the titan with the 290x.

Look at Nvidia, they went from the disaster that is fermi to the awesome maxwell, that is impressive ****. AMD on the other hand don't seem to be as focused on getting their **** in order and producing the architecture that will spank Nvidia.

Might just be they can't compete with Nvidia when it comes to developing the most advanced GPUs, and we will just have to accept it.

The TX price tag doesn't reflect the difficulty of designing a perfromance comparable GPU. It's just what Nvidia think they can price their GPU at, where people will happily buy to the extent that they sell as many as they produce. Time will tell for the TX.

The 980, released 11 months later, ought to not even be a challenge. It is 15% faster then the 290X at 1080p and barely 10% faster at 2160p/4K.
That the 390X will hang around with the TitanX, is reasonable.

AMD are releasing an entire new memory architecture this year, and in your words 'they aren't getting their 'blank' in order'? I'm not sure what you mean..

New stuff from AMD is coming, let's be honest what we've had from Nvidia is the GTX 980 giving 5% - 10% extra performance to reinforce the 780 Ti price point. Then came the Titan X extra 30% performance at twice the price. For the budget minded there is nothing great there, no advance in price VS performance whatsoever from Nvidia, however the enthusiast with deep pockets is happy.

AMD still offer the best price VS performance cards atm, and are working on newer cards. All this on a meagre budget when compared to Nvidia. Also working on console tech etc..

I'm not sure why you seem so angry at them?

I'll be amazed if on the same process AMD manage to get anywhere near TX with the 390x.

That would amount to over 50% increase in speed!

As some have said they will hopefully beat the 980 but a fair margin (leading to NV price cuts) but i can't see them hitting the TX level.

The issue is then along will roll the 980Ti designed to beat the 390x by 5-10% and we begin again.

If it is within 10% of Titan X performance and costs 50% less AMD will have done their job imho.

If it has performance on par or better than Titan X and still costs less, AMD will have excelled themselves.

Agree 100%, but thats a BIG ask.

Happy days if your right tho, it should lead to some decent price cuts!:)

We already know HBM could be 1024GB/s

That's more than 3x the bandwidth of a 290x just from the memory.

Add some more stream processing units, the 512bit wide bus and maybe a tweak here and there and it's not looking bad.

It looks like it could be awesome, only thing is if AMD brings it to market in time.

Nvidia keep soaking up market share, the high end with the 980, the mid end with 960/970 and now the enthusiast tier with Titan X.

AMD's cards need to be good but they need to be launched as well.

Hurry up !! Lol.

They'll be here when they're ready to be here. :)

Will be interesting to see if it will be an aio like the 295x2 or not. Presumably third parties will have other options.

There's a down side.

1. it beats the titan by 10%
2. cost 10% more than the titan x

They'll be juggling prices close to release I'd imagine, seeing how much faster or slower than titanx it is in reviews and pricing it accordingly. Faster or slower theres no way it'll be titanx priced.

I wonder how much smaller the PCB are going to be compared to normal GPU PCB at present ?

As there will be no physical memory on the boards anymore or all the interconnected circuitry.

Bit of a GPU noob here..but I'm looking to upgrade my computer soon. I'm going to be gaming at 1080p mostly then jump to 1440p later this year.

Was about to do some research and choose between 290x & 970 but then realised this 390x is coming out. Would this drop the price of the 290x & 970 do you think?

Since this GPU would be £400+ most likely?
