Amd Radeon next move?

It would seem he has a "proper job" with AMD as a Community Manager and is the official AMD Rep on this forum.

Being a member of the OcUK community probably went a long way towards him getting the job but he seems to have taken a back seat now he has it.

We'll see how that goes.

No different than before then.

I don't think being a member of this forum was the main reason for getting the job. ;)

Have you actually been keeping a check on him or something?

AMD's next kove is pretty obvious, drop the 290x to 250 gbp and start engineering more power efficient vide cards. There more then capable just look at how the 2900xt evolved over years to become the 5870 which smacked the gtx480 all over the park in terms of efficiency but it is odd watching AMD regress on its strategy to produce such cards with the counter of delivering stunning performance.

I think it won't be long before we see the R9 3xx series cards. AMD need to step up a few gears after this release from NV.

Competition is great. :)

AMD/ATi recovered from the HD2000 and HD3000 series which was competing against the G80 and G92. That was probably the worst situation they were in graphics for years.

Nvidia had Fermi which consumed much power and had huge dies, but it was evolved into Kepler and Maxwell. Nvidia recovered from the disaster which was the FX series to come up with the 6000 series and so on.

IMHO,I do think Nvidia might get to 20NM before AMD,primarily for the GM200/GM210 which will be 20NM it appears according to some. But I suspect it will be small volume, due to the 20NM shortages and the fact most of them will be for commerical customers, and then when capacity opens up we will see the full 20NM stack.

I OFC expect more AMD is doomed posts comments from people,as a result of Titan II,even if 99% of Nvidia sales would be still on 28NM! :p

Whilst i agree the new nvidia cards are quite impressive i dont get why people think amd are doomed, who knows what they have up there sleeve, could be something better or mabe not, time will tell i guess

I agree hopefully if they dont have the 300 series ready to be launched it lights a fire under there ass and they get it out soon. Competition is indeed great for us users :D

The problem amd have is nvidia are now on top of them from all points, performance, price, power consumption, noise and probably overall product quality.

Usually the above points were split between the two companies making it easier to show the competition.

You have to remember as well that the 900 series pricing as it is, is launch day without much stock, the price will drop even lower once larger deliveries are made, suspect we'll have £200-230 970's before Christmas.

I'm still waiting for amd's titan slayer.

Yeh i agree amd has nothing to compete now but who knows whats to come, the only real downer i can see for amd is that if its true there next gpu will have liquid cooling then thats because its hot and oower hungry so not to good i think

The GTX 970 and 980 will be easy for AMD to top (except on TDP) as these cards have a lot of compromises built in.

AMDs real problem will be the full fat GM200 cards as these could be absolute beasts compared to anything we have seen before. If people think NVidia made quite a leap going from the GTX 680 to the original Titan, then they could be even more surprised at the even greater leap NVidia could make going from a 28nm 980 to a 20nm Maxwell Titan.

A GM210 on 20nm is an exciting proposition. From what we have seen, it would be gloriously fast. However, the initial astronomical price it will no doubt be lessens my excitement. :p

I don't know what the main reason was for him getting the job but I doubt that the copious pro AMD posting on this forum and elsewhere did him any harm.

Anyone who regularly reads this section of the forum can't have failed to notice the sudden change in posting between LTMatt and AMDMatt.

As AMD Community Manager, and AMD Rep here, this is the sort of thread he should be posting in.

Perhaps we'll hear from him later.

short term, price cut for the 290 and X versions.
I already see for October a 290x here at same price I payed for a 290 once.
so seems amd moved the price ranges for the 290 and 290x
Long term who knows, any exciting stuff happens with next die shrink anyhow.

While i do miss some of what LT had to say, i dont see any other vendor rep thats actively posting in the gpu section here.. I guess as you move up you simply have less time for some places and end of the day you are paid to do what your told

It just seems an odd thing that now he's a Community Manager his presence in this community is significantly reduced.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the role.
