AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

That was pretty disappointing, and I haven't bought an nVidia card in 6/7 years. Hours of guys who need media training telling me nothing I want to know about the cards I'm interested in :(

I don't think anyone replied to the 300w TDP comment I made, do you think this would reduce overclocking headroom? Seems high for a single card.

My advice,

Search for the highlights and all will be revealed in a single page.

Probably being harsh but lots of chat on sound developments and nothing about performance (except for the 290X hitting 8K in firestrike performance bench).

You did well getting that 7990 and a good shout :)

7990's can still be had for less than £500 if you look around.

Worth getting?

Having said that its interesting that the R9 series has a 512 bit memory controller. I always got the impression, that Tahiti was not lacking in this department.

I wonder how the R9 will do at high resolution??

Does it have a 512bit memory controller, they haven't confirmed or denied it one way or the other.

Wow 8k in Firestrike please tell me that was not the highlight of the event
Well there's still the next few days something good might come to light yet, yeah I am glad I got the 7990's now I think :)

8000 was as far as the graph went up and was there just to keep us guessing at the final performance. I think we can tell from the specs flying around that its gonna be in the ball park off 30% faster than a 7970ghz if the clocks are similar.

The Titan easily hits that 300W limit on 1.212V, so depending on what the volts and card draws, it will be hard to call till we see the full specs. Mind you, you can easily get a Titan close to 500W with over volting, so I take the TDP with a pinch of salt.

For space/power usage for sure but I would prefer a couple of 7970's.

It could be seriously underclocked like the original 7970 was and have tons of headroom. We need to see reviewers benching these cards hard to see the real specs.

yeah the graph didn't even say 8000 at the top, said 7000 went up another bar then stopped!
