If they're faster and cheaper than Nvidia counter parts, they don't. If they don't sell then they'll drop in price soon enough anyway.
Yea but they are no Nvidia, and they are late to the market :D If the 290 does turn out to be £400+, it would be a no thanks for me, and I'll be grabbing those Sapphire 280X Toxic instead :p

But of course, it still down to the performance as well. If the 290 at £440 is gonna offer better performance than what I'd expect to get at £360, then may be...just may be.

what the hell 280x £235 290x £500+? is it really worth over double the price.

That seems crazy, especially when you have a 280x toxic edition overclock that is nearly the same as a ref 780 card.

Matson the 290X is based on an entirely new architecture where as the lower tier models are re-branded 7 series. They shouldn't be compared at all. Slightly confusing in model names I'd agree.

Seriously, both 290 and 290X need £100 dropped on the price if those prices are correct.

Why, same or faster for less money = win,

I don't want to pay that sort of money, would love to pay less, don't we all. However it don't make it wrong, its what the market will take. It took Titan at 850+ so Titan at £550 has got to be better...

the 290 looks like it could be the new 7950, £100 less for only a little less speed,

The titan is silly money, the 290x is silly money. They are trying to get the market acclimatised to these silly prices. IF people stopped being silly and buying these overpriced cards then maybe the manufacturers wouldn't take the ****!

I could buy a decent laptop for what they are asking.

I'd like lower prices of course. :D But if they're faster and cheaper they don't need to. The 290X assuming is roughly equal to or faster than titan will be £250 cheaper.

i think that tactic does give them some bad/soso reviews tho
i mean if they brought the 290 out at say under 400 from launch it would get amazing reviews

Titan has also been out 8 months, lets see what nvidia have out in 8 months time and compare that card to the 290X shall we? Seem fair?

If anything the 290X should be compared with the 780.
