• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

So what's the latest thinking? 290 X around 10% faster than 290 pro but up to 25% more expensive?

Always normally go with the higher card for a bit of extra headroom and future-proofing but that would be harder to justify.

Reading through the article in the link given by Matson, this paragraph interested me.
Does it mean we will no longer need to buy a seperate dongle (s) to get infinity now.

QUOTE:

AMD Radeon R9 290X and 290 will be equipped with four display outputs: HDMI, DisplayPort and two DVIs. Since R9 series you will now be able to connect displays to different connectors in order to enable Eyefinity configuration.

Just wondered why people think the 290 will clock better than 290x?

Less active transistors producing heat allows higher overclocking headroom. As has been pointed out earlier though, AMD could nobble the 290 to stop people fully exploiting this.

If they didn't keep quiet, Nvidia would drop their prices before launch and AMD wouldn't be able to point to how much more competitive they are on pricing. It's annoying, I know, but from a business standpoint I can see why they're doing it.

I can understand too, but from customer point of view it is not a good thing. If Nvidia did drop the price of their GTX780 right now, it would lead a all out price wars without delay, and us the customer who's planning on buying will be laughing loud than the laughing cow (well, not so much for the bunch that always cry about their cards devaluing/resell value).

Did you see what they told gibbo in the other thread? Remove the golden ticket from the new cards... wtf... that's really smart from a business point of view.
