Yup, both of them. It was practically the only thing they mentioned about the 290. The slides from the presentation are floating around the internet somewhere, if you can be bothered to find them.
 
what % of gamers will buy a 290 or 290x
are game developers really going to spend anytime on trueaudio for them few people, or am i missing how it works

i did kind of switch off when they were talking about it :)

I very, very much doubt it, for the near future at least.

Even the people who do buy 290s are not enthused about the TrueAudio.

i think if amd were serious about it tho they would put it on their whole range

i do like good sound :(
 
if bullets and rockets sound like where they are coming from thats not a gimmick
the sound we get in video games right now is pretty bad

And then there is the part about the XBox One and Playstation 4 tie-ins, that is where TrueAudio really shines. Lets take a look at these because they are the killer apps for AMD

Can't read the rest(that is the last part viewable for free), but suggests to me Trueaudio or some form of it(same chip or mostly the same chip, or maybe a completely different chip with similar capabilities that can all play the same audio) will be available on the consoles, in which case game devs will certainly put in better audio capabilities for those that can use them. Secondly, game dev's consistently put in things that realistically only the fastest cards are capable of using every generation. Crysis at each stage has basically only been playable on the highest settings by, actually usually more than one high end GPU. So the number of people that could run Crysis maxed out is minimal, less than the number of people who could use better audio(because it won't effect performance) and likely in a years time the entire range AMD sells will have it... and again potentially all the next gen consoles.

Also worth noting the R260X DOES have trueaudio, and at $139, with 2GB memory, it should be a fairly high volume midrange card.

cant say i understood all of it but looks like the way it works it has to be part of the graphics card, meaning you cant just go buy a trueaudio addon card or anything like that later

it being on the consoles hardware makes me think it will get some use :)
i wonder if the next apu's have it too, they might be nice little systems
 
AMD don't own the right to all DSP's, they've lincenced access to some algorithms, normal audio will be in every game anyway just with less effects. I doubt there would be anything stopping Nvidia sticking a dsp chip on cards as well and licence the same algorithms and have support themselves...

As far as I know AMD have partnered with many people but most of the key bits could be implemented by others. We really don't know enough about it or the partnerships to know who owns what and what would be locked out or not possible. Considering AMD's general stance over the past 5 years I'd be surprised if Nvidia couldn't implement it themselves.

Of course Nvidia can implement it themselves :)

Its simply a good thing that AMD are driving these ideas forward, something that has been serious lacking in PC gaming. IMO.
