AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

I think we've seen both ends of the rumour mill now. IMO it was never going to be Titan beating when both were clocked but I also don't think it will be as bad as implied in the latest rumours.

Somewhere in between is, for me, a given. Interesting points now relate to overclocking headroom. With the mass majority of Titans and 780s reaching 1200 ish and a good proportion going further... the real performance of both the 780 and Titan is far in excess of what is shown in normal benchmarks.

The 7950 was rightly heralded for it's massive OC headroom but the 780s have a pretty similar headroom in percentage terms. I wouldn't expect heralding on this forum for anything nVidia related but it is sometimes overlooked how much headroom GK110 has... Especially factoring in AB tweaks and custom bios.

Which is why ive always said that if you were looking for nvidia the only thing worth mentioning in the 700 series was the GTX 780 and its a beast in its own right.

This is getting silly.

AMD must have the cards ready. Retailers are ready. AMD have no power over what nvidia will do. Nvidia already have their cards out there.

Why not just release the damn things, either they are good enough or they aren't. Time for AMD to get on with the release before people get bored and buy a 780.

^^ This, most I have seen are good for 1250mhz+. Even if 290X is faster @ stock, how much power use / cooling would it take to match the 780 performance @ 1250mhz?

I'm very happy with mine 1300mhz @ 55c on a £30 cooler :p:D Def keeping this beauty until 20nm.

All of this rumor stuff must be horrible for the guys that have pre-ordered...

1100mhz 290x matches 7990 in many games.
at least according to someone at xtremeforums.
I call that awesome.

That link you posted has been posted twice already and you made it the third time it had been posted. :)

Oh right oops! Had a quick scan through and couldn't see it!

Wish they would hurry up and release it, I want to know whether the 290x is worth the extra ££ over the 290, then I'm going to finally replace my 6950

Whats funny that in less than 2 years, this will make AMD top or match the fastest single GPU Nvidia cards for the third time in a row.

To put that in context AMD/ATI had only done this twice in the last five years.

Its not a review, its a Chinese forum member claiming to have one, its probably some guys 280X with a modified BIOS clocked up to the rafters.

The NDA lifting today was a rumour made up by review sites looking to generate traffic.

Lol Humbug, your optimism never ceases to amaze me :D

Are you getting one?

I don't know why that's considered funny but then again I do class myself as normal.

The thing is...the 290X might not need to have huge overclocking headroom on the core clock, IF their memory clock was very overclockable, considering they are on 512 memory bus.

From the Sleeping Dogs bench with extreme AA (supersampling), the 290X is already 10fps ahead of the Titan, most likely because of the higher memory bandwidth.

But of course, performance ain't most people concern right now...it is the pricing.
