AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Well I've still got my pre-order and I'll wait for the official benchmarks to come out before I make my mind up 100%. If this thing turns out to be another Dyson Hoover, I'll be keeping my GTX680 for a little while longer and waiting for the GTX780's to come down a little in price. But yes, come on AMD lets have some solid benchmarks !! Enough waiting...

It's going to be interesting to see how well the R9 290X performs in BF4 as AMD users seemed to have much worse performance in the BF4 Beta compared to Nvidia users.

I see what you did there :D

Still got an open mind on this though the longer they wait the more harm that's done with misinformation get it out n get it over Amd

That is the truth T.

They need to reassure the world and get some solid info out, as those slides showing temps and power usage are not doing them any favors. The scores look fantastic for those clocks but after seeing the power and heat, I wonder how much is in the tank.

How much in the tank ?

Not much, looking at those temps and the way the smaller HD 7970s behave I think most people will be lucky to see more than 1125mhz to 1150mhz.

I think AMD may have droped the ball here, perhaps they should have gone for a slightly smaller GPU with highers clocks, something along the lines of the GTX 780.

Is there any fundamental difference between a reference card and a non reference card apart from the cooler setup and the pre-configured overclocks?

If I was looking at water in the future is there any point in waiting the additional 4 weeks for example or just best to buy now if I think they perform?

I'm sure there will be plenty under water...

I wish they would put an end to all this speculation.

I hope they'll be reference boards with non-reference coolers. Wait to long and you'll get the V2 cards where AIBs start to skimp on parts/cheap memory/lock voltages. No point having a great cooler if you can't put it to good use.

I think we've seen both ends of the rumour mill now. IMO it was never going to be Titan beating when both were clocked but I also don't think it will be as bad as implied in the latest rumours.

Somewhere in between is, for me, a given. Interesting points now relate to overclocking headroom. With the mass majority of Titans and 780s reaching 1200 ish and a good proportion going further... the real performance of both the 780 and Titan is far in excess of what is shown in normal benchmarks.

The 7950 was rightly heralded for its massive OC headroom but the 780s have a pretty similar headroom in percentage terms. I wouldn't expect heralding on this forum for anything nVidia related but it is sometimes overlooked how much headroom GK110 has... Especially factoring in AB tweaks and custom bios.
