AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

I don't know why that's considered funny but then again I do class myself as normal.

Good for yourself that you hold yourself in such high esteem then.

Its funny considering all the derping about the R9 290X being late, etc.

In less than two years,AMD has challenged Nvidia more for the single GPU crown than in the last 5 years.

^^ This, most I have seen are good for 1250mhz+. Even if 290X is faster @ stock, how much power use / cooling would it take to match the 780 performance @ 1250mhz?

I'm very happy with mine 1300mhz @ 55c on a £30 cooler :p:D Def keeping this beauty until 20nm.

which £30 cooler?

really need amd to release some info.............

Lol Humbug, your optimism never ceases to amaze me :D

Are you getting one?

Its not optimism, its its not getting over excited over some random Chinese forum member claiming to have one running at dodgy temperatures that would cause it to throttle to as low as 300Mhz and still match a Titan.
I will wait for official reviews before drawing any conclusions.

I might get the 290 (None X) if its not to much money.

Sense of humour failure. I still don't see how that's really funny but each to their own I guess.

I hope you are right. I seriously want a new toy if I sell my laptop but if they are correct, it looks likely to be a 1440P screen.

which £30 cooler?

Antec 620 with dwood bracket. Modded my antec 600 case so the 620 fins is mounted to the front intake fan, with another behind for push / pull, keeps the GPU really cool, normally 50c will reach 55c if really stressed, i.e BF4.

Not bad for the money, those dwood brackets are very good, have about 4 different kinds. The 780 one has a mount for a fan, so memory has direct cooling as well.

GPU's, even the GTX 480 have an absolute thermal limit before they start to break down, i think its over 100c, but not far over, even then, solder and glues will start to fail in the high 90's, by the time you get to that point you will already see the effects of that on your screen.

AMD's GPU's are set to start thermal throttling at 85c, it goes in stages from the boost overclock to its base clock, then to 500Mhz and then to 300Mhz, it will keep going up and down to keep it under 85c, if it stays over 85c and can't get under it it will just run at 300Mhz, GPU-Z has this one running at 93c, NOT - A - CHANCE with those scores.

I said the first time when these Chinese scores surfaced, the ones where the R9 290X beat the Titan in FireStrike somewhere in this thread.... that i will believe it when i see it in real reviews.

This one, with those temperatures is almost certainly bogus.

"we remain on schedule for an October unveiling"

No, you don't. You are behind schedule and you won't even give reviewers cards or announce the price.

I have a huge backlog of games waiting to be played on beast hardware, there must be plenty more people like me sitting tight since August with nothing to do but read forums. GIVE US THE CARDS ALREADY

The feeling around the internet is that these bench results are real. I know you are a fan of AMD (and should be as you have shares in them) but they do tend to tally up with everything we know. The heat in Furmark will have the Titan down clocking as soon as it starts to hit 70c but as we all know, Furmark is the GPU killer and no tests I have seen have ever had the Titan at 82c, so it is quite feasible that the heat is correct on the 290X and the power consumption of 404W tells me that there isn't much room for over clocking on a smaller die. I was pulling near to 500w when I was pushing 1.395V with my Titan and if those benches are true (which I think they are), no way is there much in the way of overclocking available on the 290X.

Only a couple of weeks and we will know for sure, so no point getting worked up bud :)

If those Temperatures and power consumption are reached in Furmark and Furmark only then i'm more open to it.

Nvidia and AMD both throttle Furmark 'specifically' you may remember Furmark was identified as a GPU Killer some time ago, both AMD and Nvidia tackled Furmark specificity, Nvidia implemented a more aggressive throttle system than AMD, which is why AMD score so much higher in a Furmark bench, use so much more power, and run much higher temperatures in Furmark compared with Nvidia than they do in games.

These benches have no more legitimacy than the other one which showed AMD in a much better light, some may want one to be more true than the other, and then chose to hammer that one home. i chose neither.

I chose to wait for the real benches.

PS: I also have shares in Nvidia and Intel and ARMH, who i chose to gable my money with has nothing to do with hardware choice, i chose whoever offers the best card for my money, right now thats just not Nvidia. the fact that i don't own an Nvidia GPU (for my own needs) does not make me loyal to AMD.
