That hitler video was great btw. Props to whoever did it. The part about Broomstick and 60fps at all times raised a smile. :D

I might have to do one of those. :D

i didnt like it, it made me feel sorry for hitler :(
he should never be the good guy!

I always find it funny that people get upset that a product has an intended date and launch, and that people find out about the rough time it's coming out then get upset they aren't told about it earlier.

If AMD told us about this card three weeks earlier... we'd simply have found out about that three week earlier date as the rough time they'd talk about it, and the hype would START three weeks earlier, and we'd be in the same situation.

AMD have a date in mind to launch a card that is pretty closely tied to when the card is actually ready to be launched shockingly. The industry gets a rough idea, leaks a little information and generally speaking, Nvidia go into PR overdrive mode and seemingly release disinformation to rile everyone up.

The date AMD launch is irrelevant, people would still leak small bits of info, Nvidia would still do their thing, fanboys would still get themselves all upset over not knowing exactly what it is and they'll build themselves up into a frenzy demanding to be told information. If the original date was late November, the level of frenzy in said people would build up towards the end of November, if it was three months earlier, this same thread would just be at this point 3 months ago.

Every launch without fail there have been utterly made up dates, if the top end card is first, last, in the middle, while these threads are full of people reacting to made up dates and posting about being let down over a made up date they talked themselves into believing was a release date.... honestly it makes for embarrassing reading.

Not that delays in themselves are really the concern but AMD giving distributors a date (which they had), and then moving it back a few weeks is by definition a delay. lol :D. AMD along with the manufacturers are the ones that are issuing these dates to distributors, nobody else.

Obviously I can't speak for the NDA lifting nonsense dates that have been shifting around, but the cards themselves have been moved back. That much is clear to me. Again, it's not the delays in themselves that are the problem. We've got AMD demoing their cards as soon as today for example - when do people with pre-orders get a look in around the world. Poor show.

i wonder if roy is driving the truck :)

The phrase keep on truckin and AMD Roy go well together i think.

Ah ok, well I'll take it as a compliment if I'm mentioned :D.

Its all good. ;)

Regarding your video though. Pretty sure the 7970 was a reference blower when it was first launched so its standard for AMD to do this. It would also reach 90c+ if you ran it at stock clocks with only 40% fan speed. 4-6 weeks till non reference 290X cards come out according to Gibbo.

I'm guessing this is to compare cards of a similar value.

Makes sense to me.

It's all in jest, 90c+ isn't exactly new territory for modern GPUs :) We don't even know how loud these cards are yet.

They'll be loud as they're identical to 7970 reference of which i owned one but at such low fan speed cooling performance will be poor. I could tolerate mine up to 60% or so. I'd imagine that would be good for 80c or lower on the 290x at stock.

bcos it reaches 90c in a benchmark doesnt mean it will get to that in games
and thats just 1 sample if even real

but saying that they could have put a $30 better cooler on it and charged $50 extra
they cheaped out on that ><

Titan cooler is the same. 65% is probably over 50dB. All good for benching but for playing a few games with the Mrs trying to read it's the same as just going over and blowing in her ear for half an hour. But the reference coolers are all shiny so that makes it ok :D.

The most basic rule for a company in this kind of situation is "manage your customers' expectations". AMD has spectacularly failed to do this, to the extent they are experiencing a backlash regarding just about every aspect of their new products. Rumours and half-truths are all over the place because AMD will not step up and manage the expectations of their potential customers.

i want a reference card because i want to watercool but at the moment my pc is too quiet and the mrs says there is no point... i am sure she will change her mind when her ears bleed

Sounds about right, what's wrong with that price other than people are for some reason hoping for 780 beating performance and price (which if we take a direct conversion in currency it is cheaper).

XE shows it as £444

I don't get why this is such a big deal, does anyone honestly expect them to be £100 or more less than equivalent NVIDIA card?
