AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

if it;s so close to 780ti launch, then wait right? :)

What i think is for certain is that that in real world benchmarks (not 4k !) that its going to be pretty much neck and neck between the 780 and the 290x , i think this is why we are seeing so many 4k benches so it imprints us into the idea that the 290x is faster than the 780.

For eye infinity users this is going to be a big win but for single monitor users its just going to be the cost factor that's going to sell the cards.

780ti vs 290x at 1080p and 1440p now thats going to be interesting, but again Nvidia is pushing the whole 4k thing so i expect the same insignificant gains at 1080p. I start to swich off to reviews when benches show 1/2% gains and state "the clear winner is !!!!!!", pointless...

Ahh the master detective, well done ! , however .... whilst i'm not innocent in posting the odd amusing reply this particular thread keeps deviating WAY off topic to the point that i go away for 10 mins and end up trawling through pages and pages of either nvidia vs amd penis pulling or discussions about 1440p monitors and consoles. It could probably be condensed into 50 pages of actual 290x feedback and discussion.

I was just making fun and no reason to take it personal. I blame AMD for being so secretive for this length of time (we have known about these cards since early September) and not giving out any solid data. Apart from the odd picture, this whole thread is speculation and full of guess work and if we was to narrow down the facts, it could be condensed into 1 post :D

As for the speculation, it does appear to be quite a good card and trading blows with a 780 (which was expected and announced at the GPU14 conference). Now we could do with some hard facts including pricing and game performance.

I'm freezing here, i wish this 290 would come out so i don't have to get the boiler fixed.

Apparently we are in for the worse British winter for a century! Might have to crossfire these things if that's the case!

Thats If we have any power as I read we could have power cuts this winter

I ask about 290x and one e-tailer told me would be able to pre order 290x a day or two before it hits the market I mean none bf4 290x

BF4 will be released on the 29th, so that doesn't give much time inbetween for those who have pre-ordered the BF4 special edition 290X.

I think people who ordered BF4 special edition 290X will get card first and others will have to wait a week or 2 to get none bf4 290x card

Cheers for the info matt ;)

Seems the 280X will be getting returned asap.

looks like i'll have to wait for one of these now.

Seems like it does have a Dual Link DVI after all mate. At least according to what i found here.

Hot off the press Mr PG Tips

MSI has gone with its own design for the card's outputs, with the standard combination replaced with two mini-DisplayPorts, a dual-link DVI-I and an HDMI connection.

Well at least it has one dual link DVI for 1440p/1600p. That's all i use, but i only have one screen.

Whilst you may not be bothered about it Thats no reason for me to cancel is it dude? ;)

I know what Im buying and what the dif is (or lack of) but I fancy both of them. My wife likes kinect and im selling the 360 plus I really want to play destiny :)

If your wife loves kinect then by all means lol anything to keep the other side happy. For gaming though this gen i found having both consoles pretty much like having the same machine apart from the odd game that was ps3 or xbox only. I guess i am showing my age now as i have had just about had every console that exists. Less gaming less want pretty much.

Ahhh, then I will be spoofing my IP :p and right up the wrongun :D

Damn straight. VPN for the win mate. We can all share one on here. ;)

The way it works with Origin though, you'll need the vpn everytime you connect to Origin to try and play BF4. There is no one time unlock procedure any more on Origin.

Nah, it worked a treat for BF3. Just needed to do it the once and that was it. I hope that is it anyways and they haven't done something but it ran a check - see I was an American - off I went.

I find knocking the res down to 1080p on my dell makes it look ugly as sin Greg. The sharpness goes and everything is bigger,a bit blurry and more pixelated

If you are using 1080p on a monitor with a higher native resolution then its going to look worse because the scaler will be involved and these can often make things look bad. The true test would be to run one monitor at 1440p (in your case a dell) and then have the equivalant 1080p dell model next to it and see how much difference that makes.
