AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

I find some of the comments below the leaked results calling the foul on the results, make no sense etc based on the logic that there's no way 3 Way SLI Titan would be no faster than a single 290X so funny...if they are referring to the 3 digit figures frame rate 1920 res results, clearly they don't know what CPU bounded/bottleneck is :p

Be yea I agree would be better to wait for more reliable reviewers. 290x being as fast as CF7950 seem too good to be true. I wouldn't be dancing just yet.

That's a synthetic though. Meaningless for me compared to game performance.

This throws up some problems i did not anticipate having to face.

Agreed couldn't give a monkeys about synthetic benchmarks, can't even remember the last time I ran one, don't even think I checked my 780 with 3dmark or anything.

Game performance is all that matters.

Any result that shows a 290X performing well is clearly false. :D

Actually part of me hopes it is. I'll be disappointed to find out its faster than what i have now. :(

Exactly.

Also benchmarks are always indicative on gaming performance..

Not really. As a brief example i just scored 50% higher than Gregs Titan on Tomb Raider with my 2x7950's. Yet you look at any of the synthetic benchmarks and our scores are very close. Infact i think on some Greg even beats my scores. Admittedly a lot of my scores are out of date and on old drivers but the point remains.

To you. Some people like benching as well. Also benchmarks are always indicative of gaming performance..

Nice to see my old 780 at the top of the stack, faster than 7970 crossfire. Yeaaah boi.

LOL. I want one of Broomsticks GPU's. They're always the fastest around and never drop below 60fps. :D :p

The more I see things like this the more I realise I need to upgrade my PSU and get 2 cards. As good as it may be, one is not going to suffice on 1440p I doubt.

Didn't know you became a partner with Nvidia manufacturing GTX780 :p

The result would be more believable if it was "8 pack's GTX780" instead of "Boomstick's" :D

I wouldn't recommend any lower than 2x7950's at 1440p. Even they need a bit more grunt really. If you overclock them to 1100/1500 you're looking at stock 7970 ghz crossfire performance though. Even then id still like more. :D

Are you a 1440p gamer? Another option is 280X CF as I was impressed by the value of that setup. I just need all the cards to be out so I can make my mind up, I keep going round in circles.

Apart from the PSU, I agree with you. I'm going to look at some 780 SLI vs 7970 CF reviews tonight and see how much better it is despite costing ~2.2x more.

I really want to see benchmarks of the 290 non-X in CrossFire though. I'm starting to think that might be the solution to this dilemma :)

I feel you. Sigh.

I'm still not fully understanding the power requirements thing tbh so might just chance it. I didn't realise the extra strain on GPU's caused by 1440p tbh, if I did my research I would probably have started with 7970 CF rather than a single 780.

I am indeed. I'd grab a 280X crossfire setup now if i was looking. Will have a bit more grunt than my setup. I guess this gives me another chance to shamelessly plug my 13.10 beta 1440p benchmark thread. Might be of interest to you Noxia. :)

I'm going to run some new benchmarks and will publish them here once my w8.1 install is complete. I believe the 290X drivers, (13.11 beta) add some nice performance gains to synthetic+game benchmarks.
