AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

They have new voltage regulators, MSI AB and other OC software need to be updated to recognise the regulators.

I have the same problem with my Powercolor, MSI AB does not know the VR's, i have to force constant voltage to over / under volt or use Powercolors crappy Power Up Tuner app.

Gibbo, try that, force constant voltage or DL the GPU's own OC App.

Ahhhh I hope you are right. I took it from him saying AIB's would need to do voltage control as AMD had done voltage control and locked that part out (Like Nvidia have done).

This is something that could do with confirmation.

btw i just checked.. it was the XFX 290x bf4 edition that says voltage unlocked on the front of the box

With the auto volting when you add +50 to the power, this is why I have concerns about voltage being locked. With vanilla Nvidia, it goes.

Push slider for 110 power target
push slider for core clock
push slider for memory
Press apply

The card then auto volts to its limit. No voltage play for the user. Some cards have an option for +38mV but seriously??? Why bother with that?

290X cards won't be voltage locked, at least not initially. Once AIB's can create their own designs and modify the pcb expect the usual suspects (XFX, Gigabyte) to release voltage locked versions at a cheaper price. Proobably tinker with the pcb parts and memory (Elpida, if not using it already) to reduce price further.

i still hold a grudge against sapphire for my 5870 rev 2
it wouldnt OC without problems

I doubt Gibbo can do anything until the software gets updated, afterburner, trixxx etc. That's unlikely to happen until the cards are released. Was the same for 7970/50 cards.

Just a thought but maybe these are so close to the metal, there isn't anything left over, like they did with the 680. Purely guessing and the term 'voltage unlocked' is also put out with Titans....We have +38mV to play with wooooot :D
