AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

Really naive post here as I have been out of the GPU game for a while. I'm still rock my Nvidia 260's in SLI.

What advantage does AMD have over Nvidia? I know that Nvidia has CUDA and PhysX but am unaware of any AMD advantage apart from OpenGL
The problem with Nvidia is their cards price is TOO HIGH (mainly the GTX780 and Titan...or the GTX770 even). This is why people are hoping AMD would bring out cards that offer similar/better performance at a much lower price and force the prices down with the competition.

You pay a premium for extra performance with most things if you want it early, I don't see why people cant grasp that, plus I believe Titan has made things progress a little faster, maybe without Titan AMD wouldn't have felt the need to aim for that level of performance.

I think nvidia's own 780 offers more of a push as the Titan is so far beyond what the vast majority of buyers would pay its performance is moot.

I expect to see you and it in my Valley thread, or i will be coming after you with my Zimmer frame, before i wipe LtMatt's blood off it. :p

Have you thought about running a Hi Rez section in your Valley thread. The reason being anyone getting 3 or more of these R9 290X cards will not get anywhere near the best out of them @1080p.

I get nearly the same score running 1080p and 1600p on the valley bench with my cards, at 1080p there is a terrible bottleneck.

Erk, 9 pages since I looked at this thread last night.

As to the OpenGL/DirectX thing, almost all Windows games are DirectX but they can be ported, it's not a huge thing. Metro Last Light is already confirmed. PhysX has nothing to do with Windows, so that can still work on Linux too.

Are you all mad? will it be a titan beater? if it turns out to be a titan beater? will it be under £500 or not?, bargain if it beats titan and comes in at under £500......

well dudes, this card kicks titan, 780's arse and will be faster than 290x it is under £500 now but according to Gibbo it will go £600-£700 after 290x release.

Not everyone likes using dual GPU's, noise, heat, power use, stutter etc.

Each to their own yo.
