AMD Radeon R9 290X Pictured Again (Final Design)

While the specs have not been confirmed yet, we have a new pictures of the final Radeon R9 290X design. Just as I thought that design you’ve seen few days ago was not final! In fact R9 290X looks just like Curacao sample!
According to the source, AMD has not yet confirmed the specs. Instead they have shown the sample to the public during a small briefing aboard USS Missouri.
The R9 290X has four display outputs, including two DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPport. It will requires 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors to consume up to 240W (we actually think it’s 250-260W). This sample is so fresh that AMD even forgot to add a proper Crossfire connectors, or maybe this is how they look? Maybe the first sample we’ve seen was alpha and this just beta?
The site is also claiming that R9 290X is faster than GTX 780, while not as fast as TITAN, but that may depend on the settings you choose with the BIOS switch, which is a new standard for reference flagship models from AMD.
More information will be posted later, right after AMD makes this card official.

I was going to go green for my next upgrade but would it make sense that since the new consoles are both AMD it would be wiser to stick with AMD again?

You would think so.. Expect both side's to run the games fine, but AMD should perform better from release.

We see come the beta for BF4 seeing AMD working close with that game it should perform better right from get go.
Nvidia worked close with bf3 and you seen how long it tuck for amd to get hand of things 12.11 changed all that.

Whats not to get lol since all console games will be designed with AMD cards in mind would it not make sense that ported games may run a little better with AMD cards?

No, those consoles will be running the same GPU for the next 7 years or something, PC games will be optimized for the latest cards with drivers, not optimized based on console GPU's.

Nvidia have a full fat GK110 to bring to the table.

But there is only 7% more on it from the Titan, 2688 vs 2880 CUDA cores.

clock for clock that would translate to 3 or 4% in performance

Unless the refinements in process that have enabled AMD to bring out their new core also means nVidia can ressurect GK112 aka to use someone elses words the "real kepler". I find it unlikely and have not seen anything to substantiate the possibility.

Are the console parts on GCN2? Any fancy tricks developers come up with for the consoles may not translate to the PC if the architecture is different.

People are saying "games will run better on AMD because of consoles" but I haven't heard any technical arguments that prove this.

They won't, if it was a matter of being able to port things directly then maybe so but not as it is.

I think GCN and GCN2 are the same architecture, just better.

Videocardz are saying that is the 290X, on the back of the card it looks like it says 280X? Maybe eyes are dodgy..

Well Spotted, cam't see.... le'me DL it and push it through Photoshop

I can't enhance it, its to far pixelated, but one thing i can see, the 9 on the R9 looks pretty much exactly the same as the apparent 8 or 9 on the part in question, just a pixelated block of a similar shape.

no idea, it could even be R8 280X
