AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory

the 9 on the R9 looks pretty much exactly the same as the apparent 8 or 9 on the part in question, just a pixelated block of a similar shape.

no idea, it could even be R8 280X

Yeah I think you may be right, it looks like the second 9 has more pixelated image, not sure what I think about the cooler, nice design but looks a bit um cheap? That same design in a Titan-esque shroud would have been nice, the red and black can look to plasticy..

I can't enhance it, its to far pixelated, but one thing i can see, the 9 on the R9 looks pretty much exactly the same as the apparent 8 or 9 on the part in question, just a pixelated block of a similar shape.

Yup looks like R9 280X from where I'm sitting.

I have to be honest, i do think the shroud pictured does look a bit like it was carved out of my wheelie bin.

But meh, its not the shroud that counts, it will be available with 3'rd party coolers anyway.

I think they have gone cheap on the cooler to save costs and give the consumer the best deal at £399 inc BF4.

If the ref cooler doesn't come with a light I'm not interested *strokes 780*

:D

In all seriousness though, I really hope AMD get it right this time both on performance and pricing.

This seems to have slipped by unnoticed:

While launch of the R9 290 series will be tightly controlled by AMD (i.e., don't expect non-reference designs for a while), the R9 280X will launch entirely by non-reference designs. The three cards will launch a little later this week.

So the rebadged 7970s will only be available from AIBs as custom jobs?

Really naive post here as I have been out of the GPU game for a while. I'm still rock my Nvidia 260's in SLI.

What advantage does AMD have over Nvidia? I know that Nvidia has CUDA and PhysX but am unaware of any AMD advantage apart from OpenGL

Videocardz are saying that is the 290X, on the back of the card it looks like it says 280X? Maybe eyes are dodgy..

That's not an 8
