AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Get the feeling "noise" maybe a very subjective thing. I have petty good hearing from what i can tell as I tend to hear things most people I know cannot. That said it could be other issues too, like maybe your watercooling system has better contact and paste between the gpu and cooler hence less need to ramp up. Could also be my cores run more hot as they lower quality.

That said to me, once the fans spin up faster than 2000rpm, that to me is loud. These fans would need to remain under 1600rpm for me to say they are not loud. That said when I say loud I am not talking about jet engine or anything, just a lot louder than rest of my system fans.

When gaming in crossfire with taxing games, what rpm do you guys get?

Nothing more than 1600rpm - temps level off at about 65-68C and the fan speed meets that based on the curve using speedfan. What is the cooling like in your case?

Airflow is very good, so it all depends on room temperature. I need to have a look the the temp, but last I recall something like 25C. When I put my hand in the case, it feels very cool.

1600rpm is very good. I get that when using single core only. In crossfire or benching it hits a little over 2000rpm which is a little noisy. But it does not bother me much as the sound of the game being played always drowns it out.

Hello Everyone,

I seem to be getting some artefacts on my card, I have just try reboot, I have not changed anything on my pc neither installed anything.

Any ideas what I can try ?
IT does that in games and in heaven and so on....

The fans you have must be a hell of a lot more quieter than the two I have or you have better chips that seem to run cooler and hence need less cooling grunt.

I have two sp120 high performance editions. That said it not like even both are much more noisy compared to the stock xfx fan that I had.

You replaced the quiet stock fan with 2 loud screamers (35db each), that is not issue with the card thought.

I use a single Apache at 100% speed. Very quiet the whole thing.

Yeah, there is a reason I did that. Was not just for the fun of it :p

The stock fan would also hit 2000+rpm and was loud anyway so was not that much of an increase in sound, but at least the temperature is lower and no longer throttles now :)

Is your Apache connected to the card or mobo? I could do it like the captain and I am sure that would make it quieter a bit. might do it for an experiment soon.

CaptainRave, send me your speedfan profile when you get the chance please :)

I could be wrong, but I think that is a goner. Either get it replaced under warranty or try oven trick.

I was more reacting to the "oven trick", so you recon I should rma straight away?

Yeah, when a graphics card is dying/dead you can take the cooler off and stick it in the oven and bake it for a while, lol :D

There is a chance it can fix/extend the life of a gpu.

But obviously if you have warranty, Rma it :)

Hmm called ocuk support and nice bloke suggested I try DDU and reinstall drivers.
That solved my problems seems like. I run heaven and got 2661 score the interesting bit is when I closed it the pc made about a second long whine (like a coil whine)

What can I do to test it thoroughly please ?

That's normal, the final screen of the Unigine benches run at about a million fps.

Very strange. Would not have thought that to be a driver issue...

I suggest running OCCT as I mentioned in the last page for an hour. If you have errors on stock settings then something is not right.

Apart from that just game with new games that tax the gpu. If no crashes then your good. Oh and don't use furmark.

Ok so just use the same settings as you have but native res and test for an hour...ok how will that show any errors does it have some kind of a log ?? my cards is stock

Says it in the top left. Remember to run full screen. It is green when zero errors, soon as it goes red it shows you error count.

ADVICE PLEASE

I'm thinking of replacing the stock fan with a pair of Corsair Fan, SP120 PWM High Pressure Fan 4 pin, Dual Pack (CO-9050014-WW).
As the rad' only has 1 fan on it which screws do i need to purchase to add a second fan. Also which fan splitter will I need for the power please.
Is it a 3 pin to 4 pin or a 4 pin to 4 pin splitter?

Thanks H.

You will not be disappointed if you do this.

You will need the long radiator screws. Something like https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-224-XS

I wouldn't bother with a fan splitter, it doesn't spin the fans up enough to be any better than the stock fan...actually it was much worse for me with the card throttling quickly. Plug them into your motherboard fan pins and set up a custom fan curve using speed fan. Has reduced my temperatures by 10C and the noise is the same as before - the fans don't even spin up anywhere near their maximum.

If you do get a fan splitter, don't get the black one on the OCUK website, it doesn't fit. Get this one - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-013-AK (again, I don't recommend this).
