AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

Done quite a bit of reading and not come across anything like that.

Never really looked into it properly as I intend on keeping everything on stock myself. Only thing I am doing is disable ULPS and 50% powerlimit and it runs nicely :D

Well, i like to touch things lol

i can run 1000/1500 at -75mv under clocked, like this has been tested over days and days of gaming.

i can run at 1200/1600 at +65mv overclocked

So id like to get these settings dialled in the BOIS, used to do it to my nVidia cards so was just under the assumption someone would have made a BIOS editor for this

I recommend you run OCCT GPU error test to be sure mate. It will catch errors that may not show up visually.

Anyway, time to head over here ;)

Hi chaps.

I'm looking to get a new GPU and have been waiting for news on the Fury X etc. I just now saw that OCUK have a couple of 295X2's in the B-grade section for £400. The price seems pretty great for such a powerful card but I'm a bit worried about spending so much and only getting a 90 day warranty.

Also a bit worried that my CPU might limit the card a bit? I game at 1440p and don't usually get games until they drop down a bit in price. So usually about a month behind the curve.

Just looking for some advice really :D

I've managed to get it t0 4.2Ghz but as soon as I touch the voltage I run into a load of issues. Cant imagine the difference between 4.2Ghz and 4.5Ghz or even 5Ghz is that much?

Your CPU is fine, maybe try and get it up to 4.5GHz at least if possible.

It is a good card as long as you don't mind tinkering about a bit. For example majority of my games I just run with a single gpu enabled as that is more than enough fps for those games and the card runs very cool.

Games such as Crysis 3 which I completed recently obviously is where the 2nd gpu comes in for me which crossfire worked better than I expected. Currently playing Tomb Raider and again crossfire is working perfectly enabling me to play 60fps in 4k.

I am currently waiting for proper Witcher 3 crossfire drivers (even though I completed the game) and Elite Dangerous. Everything else I am interested in playing either works on crossfire or single gpu mode perfectly fine for my needs which is 60fps.

If patience is not your game and you want instant results, I would suggest you get a 980ti as you game at 1440p.

It might be alright for me then. Like I said, I rarely buy any games on day. I think GTA V was the first time I've done that for about 5 years!

I think I may take the plunge!

I think I've seen this asked before regarding B-grade things on OCUK, but is the manufacturer warranty (if any remains) valid beyond the 90 days that OCUK offer?

It should but ask OCUK.

Either way is pretty good damn card. Doubt going to change before there is a single GPU that can beat the 295X2 working in CF.

Everything TNA said, is spot on. And if you pair her with a Freesync monitor, you are set.

Also you might be looking to replace the fan with a better one like an Akasa Apache (or 2). Never passed 60C during normal gaming, while working CF and overclocked at 1100/1625. And we are talking about now, which is summer with higher ambient temps.

And is so quiet....

Well I went ahead and got it.....and it's having a bit of a crisis.

I put the card in, installed the drivers and rebooted. Everything seemed to work fine and I ran Furmark for a bit just to make sure it was ok under load. It was doing well. Then I turned the pc off, put the side of the case back on and fired it up again.

I now get a black screen after the windows logo during bootup. It seems like the system just hangs because I never hear the Windows startup sound.

If I boot into safe mode and delete the drivers, it works fine after windows installs some generic drivers. I've tried a few different driver versions and it just happens the same every time. Not really sure what to try now.

I've googled a bit and it seems like a few people have run across the same issue....can anyone help me? :D

Ive got 4690k oc to 4.4ghz and 295x2 and on bf 4 the cpu is used 100% causing cpu spikes...1080 on custom settings most on medium on 120hz monitor... cannot maintain 120 fps....so no you need oc'd i7 at least....

Just upgraded to a 295x2 from a 7990. Best £200 upgrade i've spent. :D

Running an i7 2600k @4.5. Max cpu usage in BF4 is 90.9%. Settings are 1080 Ultra 4x MSAA, HABO,120hz. Capped the FPS to 120 and it stays at 120 all day long, minimum and maximum.

EDIT: Forgot to add the GPU is not overclocked and running undervolted. Well happy.

That concludes i7 2600k stock > i5 4690k with 4.4ghz clock....what windows do you use ?

I currently run a 1gb 5850, I did have a ref 290 but sold it and bought a gtx970 which I sent back when the ram issue cam up so im back on the said 5850

so I was itching for an upgrade and hung fire until fury x, then I saw the b grade 295x2 @ £400 and decided over the 5850 regardless of crossfire issues ect this would still be a huge upgrade.

Does the manufactures warranty still apply after the 90 day from ocuk ?

I apologise for the length, but this has been quite a lengthy process :D

I have been trying again to make this card work over the last 2 days.

Hopefully with a bit more information someone can advise me :D

To recap. Whenever I install drivers for the card and reboot, I just see a black screen after the Windows logo and Windows doesn't finish booting up.
If I then reboot into safe mode I can remove the drivers using DDU and try again.

I have tried the following things in roughly this order with the following results:

  • Reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 - Same black screen after Windows Logo
  • Reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 with all other drives unplugged - Same black screen after Windows Logo
  • Reformatted and installed Windows 8.1 with all other drives unplugged - Same black screen after Windows Logo
  • Went back to Windows 7. Tried a multitude of different driver versions and methods of installation (installing only the driver not CCC etc)
  • Flashed the BIOS to a newer version
  • Tried a different monitor & cable using a different port on the card.
  • Installed the drivers manually via device manager and the "have disk" thingy - this actually got me into Windows for about 1 second before I saw the black screen again. Upon subsequent reboots I just saw the black screen as usual.

Now after all those things I started to get a bit creative in the things I tried.
  • I first tried a different power cable from the PSU which didn't change anything.
  • Unplugged all other fans in the system - no change.
  • Removed a stick of RAM - got into Windows for a few seconds and then black screen. - That kind of tipped me off that this could be a hardware fault rather than some sort of weird software clash.
  • Swapped the sticks of RAM over so I was using just the other one - a similar sort of result. Trying each stick in different slots also had the same result.
  • I then removed my sound card (which has been playing up recently) and holy crap the system booted and remained stable. I rebooted again and it worked again! So I fired up Dark Souls 2 for about 15 minutes and everything seemed fine.

At this point I honestly thought I'd cracked it. During this whole time the PC has been lying down on it side. So I stood the pc up and booted again. Now this is what really bothers me.

The system wouldn't boot at all. It wouldn't even POST. I just see a black screen and after 10 seconds or so it rebooted itself and the same happened again over and over. No amount of plugging in and out of things would change it. I reset the CMOS and it showed the BIOS splash screen then immediately rebooted again.

At this point I kind of gave up and put my 7970 back in - which fired up first time.

During this time also, the onboard network adapter on my motherboard ceased to work anymore.

I don't really know what to think about it. Part of me thinks its the motherboard because of a few recent issues (soundcard intermittently, getting stuck in boot loops as soon as I touch the voltage to overclock, onboard lan breaking). But then I wonder why is it working right now with my 7970? The model of the board is Gigabyte Z68AP-D3.

Then I think could it be my PSU? But its a pretty good PSU and I haven't had it very long. I dont know...I'm at a complete loss now.

I could buy replacements things but I don't really want to unless they are actually broken. OCUK Tech Support assure me that the card was tested as fully working before it was sold to me and I personally don't think its the card at fault - but I could be wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions or pearls of wisdom for me? Please! lol :D
